I also had a long delay before my period returned after stopping the pill - about 8 months or so. It was very frustrating waiting for normal cycles to return as I was so eager to TTC. I tried talking to several doctors who all just dismissed my concerns and told me to just wait and see. They were especially patronising about it because I was young (early 20s) and said things like 'you've got plenty of time to have a baby, I wouldn't worry about it'. After finally having another period, my cycles were still long and irregular but it was during that time that we conceived DD and I ended up being pregnant about 12 months after stopping the pill.
Are you charting? I know from charting that I never EVER have an annovulatory cycle. So whilst my cycles are all long and unpredictable, I never get a period unless I have ovulated. Which I assume is why it took so long for me to have another period after stopping the pill. Maybe another person would have had several annov. cycles during that time and wouldn't have known they weren't ovulating - whereas I just had no menstruation at all until my body got ovulation working again. Just my theory!

good luck! I remember that awful waiting time. I think I'm a lot more patient now and the long cycles don't bother me as much...
