    Possible pregnancy question

    Hi all (first timer, here),

My partner and I are actively TTC for our first child.

I'm just wondering if it's possible (or likely) to have a negative HPT before a missed period and then a positive one later?

My last period was on the 4th June and my cycle is usually 31 days. I'm pretty sure I ovulated on the 20th of June - I don't actively track my ovulation, but I get ovulation pain and I track my periods/symptoms so I usually know where I am in my cycle.

I started to feel crampy a few days later. I have also been exhausted, my breasts are sore and the past few days I have been experiencing reflux and nausea. Of course, these could all simply be in-my-mind OR symptoms of menstruation which is due in 3 days time.

I bought some First Response HPTs and couldn't stop myself from doing one when I was 5 days out from my period and it was negative. Is it possible I could be pregnant anyway?

    Thanks in advance!

It is possible, yes - tests are most effective the day your period is due (or after) so it isn't over till she shows Good luck, hope you get that positive test!

If you read the information that came with the tests it should explain its accuracy in the lead up to your period - I think 5 days out is only 40-60% accurate with most tests but check the leaflet for the percent relevant to the test you used.

It's totally possible! Some test brands are more sensitive to others and pick up HCG before AF is due but 5 days is very early even for most sensitive tests as you need your body to be producing enough HCG for it to show up in urine and at 5 days before AF your body would not be producing lots yet if you are pregnant.

Some women still get BFN for days or even weeks after AF is due. I'm expecting my first (I'm 8 weeks) and I got a super quick and strong BFP the day after AF was due but it was so quick I suspect I would have had a BFP a few days earlier too. However my friend was well over a week late with her AF before she got a BFP.

No dice this time! AF arrived bang on time.

Oh well, we'll just have to keep practicing!
