Can a blood test be wrong?

After a Dr's visit last week it was determined that I've recently had a chemical pregnancy. I am still waiting for my period to start. So I've obviously put all chances of being pregnant behind me and havent been thinking about it. However this morning I have woken up with HUGE boobies (well huge for me anyway lol) and they are tingling like mad. I am also still very tired. My blood test however came back negative. I am just worried about the chances of an ectopic pregnancy, due to my history. Has anyone ever had a blood test that was wrong???? DH & I are of the understanding that blood tests are always accurate. Then there is the worry of it being an ectopic that isnt showing. SO OVER THIS!! Any info appreciated.

maybe your levels where low enough to indicate a neg. but it may have been too early! do you have any HPT??

No, but I was thinking of buying a test. I just dont want to get my hopes up. Chances are its nothing. I would now be just over 6 wks surely it would have showed in a blood test. I'm just so confused!!!!!

My best friend had a blood test which came back negative, but after a couple of months of no AF, she took a HPT test - and it was positive! She was pg all along, which she was really shocked about as she thought blood tests were meant to be the most accurate. So I guess anythings possible! GL!

If they did a pregnancy blood test only, they would have tested for a yes or no answer. Pregnancy is only detected if your levels are over 10 or 20miu.

If you get a HCG test done this will show your actual levels and be more accurate at showing if you are in fact pregnant.

If you do test to early, like a HPT a blood pregnancy test without checking HCG levels can come back incorrect.

    Best of luck.

I'm not sure on all of the facts, but I had blood test done early on in my pg as I wasn't well & it came back negative but levels were higher than usual so she ordered another test. In the mean time I got a HPT (3 actually) & they all came back positive. That was at about 5wks.

H, I don't know if you remember me saying this back in belly buddies, but with DS1 I was about 6 weeks and got a negative BT and had to have a second one because the first one wasn't conclusive enough to be a positive. Its possible that you conceived a little later than what you thought you did so your BT might not have been conclusive enough to be positive either. I never got a postive home test with him either.

MM, I remembered what Trill said. I think if nothing over the next day or two, you should see your GP for a blood test, but make sure you ask for a quantitative one. That will give an actual number reading of the units of HCG in the blood. I wouldn't want to leave it too long just because of the ectopic risk, kwim?
