Unhappy TTC - 8 weeks post pill no period..and waiting.

    Hi All,

Im brand new to this forum thingy, the whole 'TTC' thing as well. I went off the pill 8 weeks ago in readiness for becoming PG and my periods have not returned yet. Every now and then I feel like i am PMTing but nothing ever comes!! Its driving me mad! I am going to see DR this week to see if I need to be tested for OV problems. I hope its all ok and im just freaking out over nothing. Does anyone know the procedure for testing for OV? Do you go see a specialist for ultrasound? If Im not OVing how long until they would put me on something like Clomid?? And if you go on Clomid does this delay your true cycle even longer?

Sorry about that Becky, I think I may have closed your thread by accident. But it's all fixed now.

Becky- it's probably just normal as frustrating as it is. When I went off the pill it took ages for my period to come back and it was irregular until I fell pregnant!

the doc wont put u on clomid or run any other tests unless u have been TTC for a period of 12 months or more.
The pill nearly stuffs up everyones period. Mine took about 6 months to come back but was taken away again by PCOS. Head to ur doc and discuss ur concerns. He will be able to tell u what to do next. More than likley he will tell u to gove urself some more time. Welcome to the TTC circle... as many of us have found out having a baby isnt the easiest task in the world. Took me 2 years to concieve and there are ladies on here that have been trying for much longer than that.
Take it one step at a time darl and things will work out in the end good luck and sending lotsa baby dust ur way!!! xox

It took 8 weeks to get my first AF post pill and then the next was 6 weeks before they settled into a 5 week cycle.
It also took me 12 months all up of TTC with an early loss to conceive my first child.

Some fall into a regular 28 day cycle but because you don't doesn't mean you need to be treated with fertility drugs straight away. They can have some rather serious side effects so shouldn't be taken unless really necessary.

hey becky...it's hard to be patient, hey? i just came off the bcp myself & have only just finished the withdrawal bleed. i so want it all to happen RIGHT NOW but we just have to be patient! the worst bit is, the more stressed we get & the more impatient the longer it will probably take to arrive!

hang in there chick, i'm sure your body will sort itself out soon

Hi Becky, I'm one of the very few lucky ones that started ovulating and getting a normal cycle straight off the pill. But from what I've heard and read, I'm a bit of a rarity. It's very common for it to take weeks or months for your cycle to return and once it does it may remain irregular for a while. I actually fell pregnant on the 3rd cycle after coming off the pill. Unfortunately the baby was destined to be an angel baby and we are now coming into our 8th month of TTCing.

I'm currently reading a book called "Natural Fertility" and I'm rpetty sure it said that the artificial hormones used in the pill can actually remain in your body in varying amounts for up to 6 months. It amazes me that doctors never tell us about these side-effects when the write out our pill prescriptions!

Good luck TTCing and I hope your cycle returns soon!

Thanks for your comments guys. Yes its true patience is the key..but waiting for things is not my forte! I know it will happen in its own sweet time. Last time I came off the pill (I was nearly 20 and had been on it for 1 year) my period did not come back for almost 6 months, been on it for 8 years since then so who knows. But then im a lot healthier now that I was then. I spose if DR gives me the all clear and no other problems I will just have to WAIT...snore..boring (well not so boring cos the trying is the fun part)

Well good luck to all you ladies out there, it seems we are all stuck in the same little boat. One thing's for sure I will not be going on the pill ever again, its true they should tell you about as a side effect.

That's not the only reason why I chose not to go back on the pill!

Hey Becky - yes, you are certainly not alone!
I've been off the pill for over 2 years now and AF DID NOT return. That's because unknown to me, I don't appear to ovulate now.

Anyway after about 5 mths post-pill I started seeing Dr's about it - you don't (and shouldn't) have to wait a year! All the Dr's I saw said that any 'post-pill' effect should only last up to 3 mths, any longer and there is some other underlying issue.

If you still don't get AF in a couple of months I would definitely recommend seeing your GP for some blood tests to determine your hormone levels. Best of luck!!

Thanks for the advice Mrs P. I actually went to the doctor on Friday and she sent me for a blood test to see if my hormones are all ok. Will get the results this Friday so hopefully they are all ok. She was happy to do the tests as she did say it wasnt good that AF has not returned yet, no way was I prepared to wait for 1 year.
