Question Can u get Clomid thru GP ?

    Hi everyone,

Oh, I so hope someone can HELP ME

Is it ONLY that you can get a prescription of CLOMID through a Gyno/IVF specialist OR can you get it from your own regular GP ? :doctor:

I saw a Gyno(this IVF specialist I haven't seen before) TODAY & he made us feel pushed towards doing IVF - (rather than having a go at CLOMID). I have once done a cycle of CLOMID a few years ago through a different Gyno at a different clinic BUT with this Gyno today we weren't given the chance to "Think About It" & he handed us ALL this paperwork for IVF. To be honest we were shell shocked & weren't expecting it, as I thought he was just going to give us some insight as what to do about the fibroid that was recently found in my uterus (which he said is of no problem).

So, we weren't thinking clearly to suggest if we could just have a go at CLOMID to go from there & see if we want to do IVF down the track.

After paying $172 for the 1st consultation, I can't afford to go back and fork out more money to just ask him for a script for CLOMID.

And I don't want to ring him as I feel he will try & talk me out of it.

So, does anyone know if my regular GP :doctor: is able to give it to me ??

PLEASE HELP someone !!! ... It would be so appreciated

It's bad news, I'm afraid... GPs are not able to prescribe clomid - only specialists.

I've ended up seeing both a regular gyn and a dedicated fertility specialist, and I have found the fertility specialist a bit more willing to explore options and more willing to explain things. It could just be a personality thing, though.

It should be the case of follow up consultations will be cheaper than the initial consult, and medicare rebates should cover at least part of that cost.

Interestingly the GP I went to this week (new GP) told me he could prescribe me clomid.

But then again he was a bit of an idiot, that I have no intentions of seeing again!!! So he may have been wrong.

My understanding is it is only fs or ob/gyn's that can presribe fertility drugs. Thats how i get mine.

Mabello - that's great news is that in every state though?? I'm exploring my options, not yet sure if i'll need clomid or not....

Can you take clomid to help you ovulate a few days earlier???? Can it be used to regulate ovulation as in when you ovulate? I ovulate every cycle.

I would presume it is in every state Ren, as it was a federal legislation that prevented GPS from prescribing it in the first place, but please don't quote me on that.

Im not really up to date with my clomid info these days as it has been a while since I last took it (2 years ago) but Im pretty sure they only offer it to people who struggle to ovulate each cycle. But check with your specialist
