this is second time ive had it.never had a std.apparently people can get it for unknown reasons and gynae told me it can mess up your cycles.this cycle and last have been about three weeks late.ive got other stuff wrong too,but some of that is because of previous pid and endo
I don't know your history, but after reading your posts I couldn't not reply.
Any pain should be investigated hun - are long cycles common for you? I would be seeking out another GP to obtain a referral to a specialist sooner if you can. Don't let one GP obstruct you getting answers just because THEY want you to wait 18 months.
Can you contact a preferred specialist directly and see if there are any other options to see someone maybe?
Hi girls, sorry to steal the thread NurseKobeh but just wanted to ask Emmy and trubabe, have you found that you have had many issues with ttc with PID? I had been diagnosed with it after having my son and I am now thinking of ttc #2 and wanting to know if many issues? If too personal I will understand if you do not want to reply but not many stories I have read with ppl having PID and pregnancy.
lucasmum I think it depends on alot of things. How long have you had it, do you know what damage it has caused if any. Did you have it before you had your DS or have you only just found out you have it? How did they diagnose it? My understand was you almost need a laparoscopy to tell you have it. You might be highly likely to have it but how do they know for sure? Is it from abdo pain, temps etc. Mine I had no idea, no risk factors. They discovered it when I had surgery to remove my ectopic pregnancy so yes it has affected my fertility. Thats the main reason I had the ectopic pregnancy as it had damaged my tubes. They think I got it after my second DD was born which was 3yrs ago. I started ttc in september 08, had a chemical pregnancy in Dec (never diagnosed by a dr just from having ++HPT, late AF then fading HPT and then bleeding) I then had another pregnancy in May 5months later which I lost also early which now they are sure was also ectopic and then finally my last pregnancy in July ending in an ectopic pregnancy where I lost my tube so its definately affected my fertility. My two DDs were concieved without trying on contreception so I would imagine I would have concieved quickly again if I didn't have PID. It has been over a year and no baby. I know thats not long in comparison to some people but it is along time compared to the "average" expected time to fall pregnant when actively trying.
My friend had PID at 16yrs old and was hospitalised for 2weeks on IV antibiotics. She has had no trouble ttc and having children. The rate of falling pregnant with PID is quite high it really depends on the severity if its mild, moderate or severe. Mine was classed as moderate to severe. I had had it from the birth of my child (assumed as I got really sick after I had her with high temps and pelvic pain) it was never treated until I had the ectopic in September which was almost 3yrs later. As we are still ttc I am yet to know the full extent of the damage it has done. Obviously we are hoping after antibiotics and tubal studies to flush my remaining tube we will now fall pregnant within the next 6months.
PID can be treated but the damage it has already done can not be repaired. We have treated mine and pray it won't return (as it can) The Dr who did my surgery recently said that I am healed inside (there is scar tissue but its from old injury) I have adhesions but he did say not to jump into IVF as he is sure it will happen within the next 6months and if it doesn't we will be starting IVF in 6-12months.
Feel free to ask any questions and Ill try respond as best I can. Having PID doesn't mean you will have trouble ttc but obviously it increases the risk of problems like blocked tubes and ectopic pregnancy.
hi lucasmum, from my pid i have scarring and blocked left tube.saw new FS last week and even though he reckons it wont work we are doing iui this cycle.he said im at higher risk of ectopic if i did manage to fall preg with iui.he reckons ivf is going to be our best chance of getting pregnant but everyone is different and you may not have an problems at all falling pregnant.i think the main thing is with a pregnancy after p i d is that drs will probably need to keep a bit closer eye on you in case of ectopic
