Not sure if you already have an answer to your question, as I only just came across your post now and thought I'd offer some help.
GP'S generally only send you to see a fertility specialist after you have been TTC for at least one year. I know that clomid is only available from a specialist, and only after they have exhausted all other options (eg. tracking your cycles, blood tests, etc).
My husband and I are currently seeing a fertility specialist, and we had the choice between clomid tablets or puregon injections (we chose the injections, as in our case they have a better success rate). We had been TTC for a year before we were referred to her. This is our second month on the drugs, and my period is due any day now. I'm desperately hoping it doesn't arrive!
I hope I've helped - please feel free to ask any questions if my answer wasn't clear enough. Good luck!
