Conceiving after D & C for Poly Removal

    Hi everyone,

On the 8/12/09 I had a Hysteroscopy & D&C surgery to remove 2 polyps between 1-2cm on either side of endometrium, one sticking out and one along the wall.

I have my follow up appointment booked with the gyno on the 30/12/09... but I cant wait to find out when I can start TTC. I was wondering if anyone knew how long I had to wait before TTC?

Im on day 15 on my cycle at the moment.

    Thanks,
    Kerrie

Edit: I have been TTC since August 2008, and have had no pregnancies.

    Hi Kerrie,

They usually say to wat about 3 cycles. I was told that you are most fertile in the first cycle after the d&c bleeding stops, but that it isn't recomended to ttc at that point as your body is still recovering.

Going by when you had your d&c, the gyno may suggest that you wait until feb to ttc, although he/she may also say that you can start sooner or later depending on how well you've healed inside.

    I hope that helps

    Thanks JennaJayen for your info.

I was hoping to start straight away; in a couple of weeks after my periods come and go, I have a 26 day cycle, but that is just because I have been waiting for ever! Im onto my 19 cycle now so I am very impatient.

Would you know why women are "most fertile in the first cycle after the d&c bleeding stops"? As you said???

At the moment I am still cramping, spotting and am tender from my surgery... but I am very thankful that it is over.

My partner thinks I should wait up to 6 months to even TTC because he doesnt want to wreck my system, hahaha he is nuts!

    I'm glad everything went well

*Edit* It is probably because the lining is completely stripped out and allowed to grow back 'as new' with no blemishes etc, or because of the increas4ed blood flow to the area... I was told this almost 5 years ago now, so my memory is a bit hazy, and I could always be wrong.

You're partner is concerned about you I'd still recommend waiting 3 months though, just so things can settle down a bit and get back to normal, also gives you more time to get your body baby ready

    Hi Kerrie,

I had the same procedure done in July this year (although I only had one polyp). My gyn was happy for us to start ttc again once i got my first period. I recovered really well from my procedure though, didn't really have any cramping or pain and only spotted for a couple of days. Once i got af, that first cycle we fell pregnanct and am now 17 weeks. Every case is different so perhaps ring your gyns office to ask the question, but that was my experience. My gyn explained that your lining sheds every month anyway, and once you get af it starts to rebuild as it does every month so there should be no reason not to try. Again though, your case might be different so its worth checking out.

    Good luck

Hi Kerrie - good luck with TTC after your Hystersocopy. I am in the same boat having had a polyp, adhesions and cysts removed 2 days ago through Hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy. TTC since March 2007 with no luck.

Like you I'm hoping for an early go ahead from the FS to re-start TTC. My post operative appointment won't be until mid January but we are seeing the FS on 21st December about our first IVF cycle - at least now we know after the op why it didn't work...so may get some feedback then. I understand wanting to be fully fit and ready to conceive but waiting isn't easy!
