    Smile Concerns about unexpected pregnancy

    Dear all,

I did early pregnancy test last night and this morning and both time come with positive result. My hubby and I are ready and love to have our baby however we did not actually prepare for this pregnancy. Now we're both a bit concern as I didn't take on any vitamin/health pill, i was a smoker previously. I've already made an appointment with my family doctor and will do a full checked out. but i'd also like to know if any of you fellow bellyers has similar experience (not having any pre-pregnancy preparation) and what you did after knowing the pregnancy?

Any comment from you will be really helpful!!!

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I wasn't TTC (trying to conceive) when i got pregnant, and was shocked and excited and scared at the same time. The main vitamin/supplement that is beneficial to take is folic acid. It is recommended to take it when TTC, but starting now can help boost your levels. You can get it from the chemist, or supermarket, by itself for abot $5 for 100 tablets or it is included in the pregnancy multivitamins.

Good on you for quitting smoking, staying off them will help bub. If your partner smokes, it is good for him to quit during the pregnancy so it is something you don't have to worry about when bub arrives.

    Enjoy your surprise bub!

Number 1 wasn't a planned and prepared for pregnancy for me, but as soon as I found out I started a peg multi with folic acid (like that day) and then generally started taking better care of nutrition etc.

Good luck and go buy you multi now!

    Hi HOTI

Thanks!! This's exactly how i felt, surprised, excited and scared. But i think overall we're both happy. I heard the folic acid is normally for TTC?? Is there any limit someone shouldn't over take if she's pregnant? Thanks so much for your tips!!!!

This one now wasn't planned. I bought the pregnancy multivitamins as soon as I found out (about 7 weeks), but was pretty slack with taking them ....
I am no good with remember pills, hence getting pregnant in the first place :O
But all my bloods so far have been pretty much fine, some low iron and vitamin D but that's been fixed up now.
All tests and scans I've had for bubs so far are all really good and he's growing well

Folic Acid has been found to reduce neural tube problems like spina bifida. It is especially beneficial to take in the 1st trimester because this is when baby is growing their brain and spinal cord. If you have no family history of neural tube issues, the recommendation is to take a 500 microgram supplement each day. There isn't any probs if you take excess. You can also boost your levels through diet, but the supplement still recommended for pregnant women.
