My contraceptive injection runs out on 23rd August, and i've never had it before. Does it take long to conceive after the injection wears off? I think I had one called Depo?
Hey Welshgirl, as a LONG time user of Depo, I still can't give you many answers, but I'll try my best.
If it's only the one shot, it shouldn't take too long. Unfortunately I can't give you an "exact" timeframe like the pill, as it depends from person to person as to how quickly your body "breaks down" the drug and uses it, and body type, (it's stored in your fat, so if you're a little more "padded" like me it may take longer). It "shouldn't" take more than a month or two, but then again it's very subjective because of the above reasons, but I know in studies done that "most" women (and I say most to cover my butt, it honestly is a high percentage) return to normal fertility after a shot of it.
Geee whizz, I hope I haven't scared you to death ... I personally LOVE Depo, and think it's a great contraceptive choice ....
Gwen, If you do a search for depo provera, you will find a few threads on it.
I only had one shot - was 1 month's injection instead of a 3 month one. I remember the paperwork that came with it said that it could take upto 18 months to get pregnant after using it.
When we saw a new GP recently for our FS referral, she said it was usually around the 9 month mark.
I only took Depo for a few months and it took me a whole year for my cycles to return to normal and to start ovulating again (that's about the average) but it varies form person to person. Some people go back to normal right away while others can take years. Hopefully since you just had the one shot it will only be a few months for you.
