Cost of having twins and getting help to concieve

look i'm going to be honest here i have no idea about this stuff but been thinking what if me and hubbie had twins for our last born. How much would it cost what options are available how do i get this info is it possible. I mean heck our bodies work alright. Myn's a bit on the slops but i think i could conceive again. any advice???

if you can conceive again on your own, you get what nature gives you. there's nothing you can do to aid in twins birth in natural conception. if it happens, it happens and good luck to you. you won't be able to get "assistance" if you don't have a fertility issue - so unless you've been trying for 12 months with no success, you won't be referred to a fertility specialist - and even then you've got Buckley's chance of getting multiple embryo's transferred if and when you move to IVF. it's not even something to contemplate at this point for a hell of a long time yet.

think of what it's cost you to have this first bub - all the furniture/car seats etc will have to be bought again so you have two of everything. clothes wise, you'll have some left from this bub, so it will be similar again to buy for the second baby.

You are opening a massive can of worms with that post...

BG is right, there are basically no doctors in Australia that would refer you for the assistance you would need without evidence of fertility problems.

The other side of the coin is that fertility treatment is no walk in the park. In the course of my treatment I have twice developed life threatening complications from IVF. It is seriously NOT something to enter into flippantly or lightly, and especially without a need for it. Not to mention the side effects of the drugs if everything goes normally and without complications, the impact on hormones and mood swings is horrendous.

Rejoice in the fact that you can conceive naturally, and take what nature gives you.

If you're fertile, you would be incredibly hard pressed to find anyone who will give you medical assistance for the sole purpose of conceiving multiples here in Australia, if you manage to find anyone at all (which I honestly believe you wouldn't). If they did, they would be assisting you to knowingly and purposefully have a high risk pregnancy that carries extra hurdles for both you and your unborn babies, so why would they help you do that?

IF you managed to find a FS who would permit you to undergo IVF without any fertility issues which is highly unlikely, there is no guarantee that both two embryos would stick to result in a twin pregnancy. Several times I've had 2 placed back with either no pregnancy, or only 1 implanting. There is nothing easy or unfortunately guaranteed for those of us who do not have the option but to undergo IVF.

Your bub is only ten days old. Just spend time enjoying your precious one. Plenty of time latter to consider #2 or/and #3. Enjoy the blessing you already have.

Gosh already thinking about it hey, I was still recovering from my caesar 10 days post birth and trying to get bf'ing established.

I wouldn't even go anywhere near IVF or anything medical like that to fall pg, the only thing I can suggest is some homeopathic remedies to help conceive can make women more fertile than they already are and hence produce twins.

I was asked to remove my uterus when i was 21 and told that giving birth could end my life. I have tho with supervision had 2 more kids wince then. Pregnancy is horrendous for me and that why was considering if there was an option to have two int he one pregnancy and be done.

given this bit of info, i think it would be a VERY BAD IDEA to try for a twins pregnancy at all!! you obviously have at least two children you love - do you really think it's worth putting your life on the line - potentially take their mother away from them - on the whim of wanting two children at once??? this may sound harsh - and maybe it needs to be - you have to be realistic here. you have children that need their mother - would you want to go through a twins pregnancy and leave your DH and FOUR + CHILDREN motherless?? i understand the desire to have a large family, i understand that it might seem like the easy way to get a large family more quickly - but please, think this through logically

I actually think to concieve twins naturally fraternals run in the mothers side & identicals are a fluke.
To concieve fraternal twins you need to produce two eggs, & I'm pretty sure thats a genetic thing.
Because Identicals are one egg splitting, it can happen anywhere, to anyone.
Fertility drugs are to make a woman more fertile by releaasing more eggs - or trying to. Thats how they often end up with multiples.

But as others have said, there is still a chance that one baby could be lost at the start.
Plus the higher risks to both the babies & yourself.
Also a good chance of having to have a c/s - not always. But imagine trying to deal with 5 kids after a ceaser?
Then there's your medical history. I really think it'd be a big risk to take. You have alot to consider.

Fertility drugs like clomid can increase your chances of having multiples. I don't think a doctor would give it to you though with your history.

Not only can you end up with twins you can end up with quins like the couple on a show doing the rounds on Foxtel at the moment. Not worth the risk when you already have kids.

To answer your question in regard to 'cost'...in my experience this is a road that when travelled by those that need it has HUGE costs...the emotional cost of total heartbreak...failed and cancelled cycles and then 'successful' cycles that end in mc...the impact on relationships..with dh...family and friends...the time it takes to attend all the appointments...the stress...getting up at 5am to get to the clinic on time for bloods and scans before work...being able to phone for results at a set time during work...and having to deal with 'bad' news while at work...this is an all consuming journey that has come within a heartbeat of breaking me...I would not wish this on anyone...truely after 10 years I am thanking God everyday that I have been spared the ivf road this time...I couldn't face it again...
