Dostinex (Cabergoline) / Bromocriptine (Parlodel )

Has anyone been on these drugs to lower prolactin? Was it successful (did you conceive)? If so, how long did it take?

Curious to hear stories, and what symptoms you had.

yep i have, been on and off it for 5 years, i used that and metformin and clomid to conceive both my children, once my prolactin dropped and i was ovulating it was easy for me, i have a very complicated history.

how high are your prolactin levels ? pm me if you want :-)

Thanks so much for answering, I was beginning to feel like I was a bit on my own with this.

They aren't super high, the doc is worried that the prolactin is inhibiting good quality eggs, I seem to still ovulate but with the low / borderline levels of progesterone and low levels of estrogren (not surprising I guess).

Last week I started having more boob leakage, I think my morning prolacting was about 1500, but sometimes it is as low as 700. It was high when I tried to conceive DD1, has been high for about 4 years, and breastfeeding was "interesting", I had such humongous milk supply when my milk came in I was stuffing towels down my top.

A bit confused... the gp said I couldn't take clomid and Dostinex at the same time? I have a referral to a gynie to talk to them about fertility meds so FX we get it sorted, cause I just "drove the big white bus" blerg. So yuck, I have a new appreciation for the lengths the IVF ladies go through for their bfp's.

Sorry about my pity party, I got a bfn this morning and now I'm vomiting from these pills and I hate TTC today.

you are right you aren't meant to take them when actively ttc, they do stay in your system for a while, not sure how long from memory, i think maybe you get the effect from them for 6 weeks, having said that i take them on a weekly basis (what dose are you on ?) i haven't ever really had too many side effects from them......and have conceived while still on them.

my prolactin was around 1200 when i started them, i successfully bf my DD for 15 months and seemed to have a good milk supply but during my pregnancy with her my prolactin went really high and i developed a pituitary tumour that haemorrhaged at 30 weeks pregnant.
with my son that didn't happen and i didn't feel my milk supply was as good that time because i'd say my prolactin wasn't as high

Some women with macro ademas (sp?) stay on Dostinex their entire pregnancy to prevent tumour growth during pg. My GP is fine about me being on it while TTC so long as I came off it at the first sign of pregnancy or if my period is more than three days late. Thanks for sharing that you conceived on it, gives me some hope . And sorry to hear about the hammorrhage, how scary!

I am on Dostinex 500mg once a week. I think I just lost my first dose to the toilet though lol.

so thats half a tablet once a week ? shame you felt sick and threw it back up.......whats the plan with you.....are you meant to be on the dostinex a while, from memory i took it for 4 weeks then my prolactin had dropped really low (to 20) and i started the clomid, the combination has worked well for me. i have stopped it in the past when i have found out i am pregnant, yes pituitary tumour wasn't much fun, i didn't enjoy meeting with neuro surgeons while pregnant, not fun !

It's one tablet once a week but I am not sure if I can keep taking it now. I've lost all of lunch and dinner and can't keep fluids down all from one tablet. Back to the GP tomorrow.

Very glad you got your BFP despite the prolactin modern medicine is wonderful (usually!).
