Going to the FS with PCOS. What tests will I have?

    Hi All,

I think quite a few of you reading this probably already know some of my story TTC but here goes...

I went off the pill in March this year and starting 'trying' from June (thats why i'm technically still in the 1-6 months thread). Anyway I was diagnosed with PCOS because I have long cycles and polycystic ovaries.

DH and I are booked in to see a FS in a few weeks time. I'm wondering what tests the FS will do?? I've had an U/S which confirmed the PCOS, and blood test which came back normal. Do you think she'll give me clomid straight away? If I'm part way through a cycle will I have to wait until I start the next cycle in order to start taking the clomid?

My cycles range from 49 days to 118 days so I really wanna get something soon if I have any hope of conceiving this year. Thanks in advance

I feel for you Mich, because I had an u/s yesterday and he said my ovaries look very suspicious for pcos, so am waiting to go back to gp next week. I really have no advice to give you unfortunately, but can just offer some support from someone in a similar situation Hope it goes well for you I will be watching closely

Thought I'd add some extra support. Very similar situation for me too but with an under active thyroid to boot. I've got my first FS appointment in a bit over a week but not sure if they'll do anything until my thyroid is completely sorted out. Best of luck.

    thanks ladies...

mog - you should join our TTC 1-6months thread. lots of friendly ladies in there with lots of support. its all TTC discussions and you will learn alot, and be able to get alot of questions answered. hope you dont have PCOS but if you have long cycles like I do there is prob a good chance you do. but dont worry, ladies with PCOS can still conceive naturally providing you dont have any other fertility problems.
i look forward to seeing the FS, will let you know how i get on.

k4t - thanks for your post also. hope your FS appointment goes well. i'm interested to hear how you get on...
i dont think i have any other problems, nothing obvious i suppose, but who knows.... fx anyway. hope it goes well for you

Does anyone else know much about PCOS and clomid? Do you think that is what i'll get given straight away or will i get a bunch of tests done?????? thanks.

It might be clomid in addition to metformin if you have PCOS. You might also get a hcg trigger to ensure ovulation. Has DH had a sperm test? You can expect that as well. Best of luck.

DH hasn't had a SA but i expect that. i've only had one u/s a few months back, and one blood test which tested pretty much everything they could think of. would they do another u/s or blood test do you think?

when you're on clomid do you have to go in for blood tests or u/s during you cycle??

i'm so excited to be finally getting some help. seriously look at my chart, its effing rediculous!! ha!
