Exclamation HELP PLEASE!! Positive urine tests, negative bloods???

    Hey guys.

I'm so confused here. Slightly devastated at the same time.

I've had a trillion urine tests which have all come up positive. i was worried that the line wasn't getting darker.. but different tests are showing darker lines than others. The important thing is that they're getting darker, slowly.

So I had a blood test and got the results tonight, and they show that i'm not pregnant at all. I just know that it's wrong, because i have every symptom.. especially the morning sickness.. holy moly!!

i had an internal exam and the doctor told me that i look pregnant from that view...extremely high cervix, closed and purple etc. period is late, all the symptoms are there, urine tests are all clearly positive, but the blood test shows hcg is only 2 which means not pregnant. He suggested I may have had a miscarriage but i haven't bled and my symptoms are still present, along with urine tests taken even today are still positive.

I'm very heartbroken, because the only reason i was having this test was to make sure it isn't another ectopic.

Has anyone else had, or heard of anyone who has had negative blood work but still had a positive outcome? I mean, i JUST did a POAS test and it's more positive than it was yesterday! My boobs are soo much bigger that i can't wear half of my tops, m/s is violent, dehydrated, extreme exhaustion, larger nipples, more CM, had implantation bleeding and ovulation spotting, the normal cramps are there, the HORRIBLE sense of smell is back... oh too much to list... it's all there.

My DP thinks that the test is wrong as he's so certain i'm pregnant. HELP!! lol, someone??

I have just been in a similar situation! Except I had very faint urine tests and negative blood. However the fact that you have had multiple dark urine tests is promising. And apparently blood tests can be wrong, especially seeing as you are still very early on. I really hope you are pregnant and not experiencing an early loss. Good luck!!

I am sorry Ciara you must feel really upset and confused.

A quantative BHCG will give you a value of the hormone level in your blood. If that is 2 that is classed as not pregnant by most labs.

If you are still getting positive urine tests I am not really sure what is going on there. The depth of the line is not important - tests getting darker do not necessarily indicate a viable pregnancy - just as feint lines do not necessarily indicate a non viable pregnancy.

I am a little bit dumbfounded as to why you have positve tests - the tests routinely used in a drs surgery are usually about 50miu which is why some people using early response tests at home will get a negative at the doctors. Simply because often home tests are more sensitive. This is because the rate of "chemical" pregnancy is high - & these preganancies typically are lost around or just after a period would have been due.

If I were you. I would go to another doctor. I would tell them what happened and demand a repeat quantatative Bhcg. This will give you a figure. If that again says 2 - I suggest that something else is going on. It is very rare for HCG to be present chemically without pregnancy.

So, go to the Docs again tomorrow and ask for it to be urgent. That way you'll get the result tomorrow.

Just a thought. When did you have the bloods taken for this test???

If it was a few days ago it's possible that the little cells hadn't implanted yet and thus your body had not begun to produce HCG...

    hi guys

thanks for the responses. My doc told me to wait another 4 weeks to get blood test again. I don't know... i'm not sure if i should get another doctor to order tests tomorrow.. or wait the 4 weeks and see if AF comes... I'm just so confused and sad.

i have been doing a search on a web search engine and found other forums from other places where women have had similar experiences and found out a few days or weeks later' that they were in fact pregnant and have since had their healthy babies... I'm hoping so much that's me... but i think i might be clutching at straws here.

You're probably right Inanna.. I probably do need to get these results back asap with another test.

Thanks for the responses... sorry i just don't know how to respond.. i'm still in shock and denial.

Jodi, i'm hoping it was a mix up! But i'm not confident that would have happened either..

MM - i might be joining you in the ttc forum again soon, i guess... I don't know... I guess there's only one way to figure this out.. and that's another blood test isn't it?

Dont know about you but for me waiting another 4 weeks would be a nightmare. Maybe give it another week and do another urine test/see if your period arrives?? I've just been through this myself and the waiting to know one way or another is horrible

    hi ciara,

i had a similar thing happen to me with the hcg levels dropping.

At 4 weeks and 4 days (Tuesday this week) I woke up and had no symptoms like the day previous, i just knew something was up so i did a pee test and it was there but feint. I freaked and thought it should have been a darker line so i waited until later in the day and peed again and it was even more feint, like nearly a BFN but not quite. That was Tuesday and now its been 24 hrs and i just began to bleed now. I knew yesterday in my heart that it was gone even though i had a blood result of >42 hcg on monday.

Since your symptoms are still strong and you still have a BFP, you must still be producing high levels of hcg, im totally baffled.

Perhaps go and see another doctor tomorrow.

My doctor sent me to an ultrasound today to see if there was a gestational sac but i didnt go, i know mine is gone.

I think its the only way you will be able to know whats going on is if you have an ultrasound and see if theres a sac. They apparently can tell whether the pregnancy is viable at 4 weeks but you cant see much else. Just the tiny circle of the sac and whether its growing something.

Good luck hun, I will keep you in my prayers and im here to chat anytime. xox

    Hey Hun,

I can totally relate to your situation in fact I have posted the a thread with the same name more than once. Sadly my pregancies turned out to be what the dr's call chemical pregnancy. It's where the egg fertilises but doesn't implant properly so you are technically pregnant with all the signs and symptoms ( i found this was the worst) but its not viable. I had this happen 9 times before I was blessed with this pregnancy.

With all my chemical pregnancies I would make it to roughly 5 weeks then miscarry. I would always have multiple positive urine pregnancy tests, always light but definately there. Even the dr's urine tests came back positive. but blood tests were always at 2 or 3.

I have heard of this happening to many women and they go on to have beautiful healthy babies. So don't give up hope. But I hope you don't mind me sharing my story with you.

I will be praying for you and bubs

This can happen Cara as there will still be HCG in the urine after there is not HCG (or very little) in the blood.

It is just a little confusing that the urine result was positive at the doctors... Usually they are not.

I hope you get some answers.

I've just come through an ectopic and so I can sympathise with the feeling of not knowing whats going on but still clutching at the straws that it might be healthy.
My advice is to not try to solve the mystery in your head cos if you come to the wrong conclusion, you'll be crushed all over again.
But I cannot believe that your doc said to wait 4 weeks! especially since you're at higher risk of another ectopic. I think you need to find a doc that will order you a serial b-hCG every second day so you can see what the levels are doing.
There's no point getting an ultrasound when the levels are low, they wont see anything. (I had to wait another week before they saw mine on ultrasound)
It is certainly very strange that you got positive HPTs on either side of such a low blood test, but urine levels will not always reflect blood levels (there's a kidney in between there)

I really hope that it is a sticky bub, or at worst a chemical preg. praying it is not an ectopic.

    Hi guys,

thanks so much for all the replies. so i guess i need to come to terms with the fact that it's probably a chemical pregnancy. as much as i don't want to believe it though

I haven't started to bleed yet, and i'm still sick with ms. still lots of pregnancy symptoms. but i feel as though i've lost this battle. I don't think i'll go and get another blood test done because i don't think i can bear to hear bad results again.

My DP and I agreed that we'll just wait it out and if i start to bleed it will confirm a m/c. I'll keep you posted to let you know what the outcome is.. but i think we all know deep down what has happened.

Thanks so much for the support!

All my blessings to each and every one of you

Im so sorry ciara I had a chemical pregnancy this week and i was the same amount along as you. I was so disappointed. I realised on tuesday and then started bleeding wednesday night.

The good thing is the doctor said to treat a chemical like its a period (i know its still a loss) but its ok to start ttc afterward whenever you feel ready. That gave me a little bit of hope.

It feels terrible being excited about it all. I got positive bloods and the doctor wrote a letter to my Ob saying i was in the early stages of my second pregnancy.... and the next day im not

I know how you are feeling and if you ever want to talk please dont hesitate to message me.

All the best and ill be thinking of you xox

Thanks so much guys! Its overwhelming the amount of support you ladies have offered! I'm so thankful to all of you. And thanks for all the ladies who have shared their own stories with me. I appreciate every little bit of info!

MSAdelaide, I'm sorry this happened to you also. The good news for you is that you have started your new cycle again, so at least you know when you can conceive again!! There's a small glimpse of light at the end of it! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with me! Perhaps these early pregnancy tests are more evil than good!!

And to everyone else - Thank you so much! I'm feeling much better now that i have someone to share it with!

I'm still in limbo with it all though.. haven't started to bleed yet, and it's been 6 days since the blood test so i would have thought i'd have had AF by now?? Does anyone have any idea on when i should begin AF after a chemical if that's what it is?

i know he said to wait a month.. and I will... but it's so frustrating after just one week.
The doc kinda made me feel like a fool when i got the results, and I don't want to feel that way again. I'll definately just wait it out.
