    Question Help Wanted :)

    Hey Girls,
I couldnt find a newbies thread so i do appologise for not introducing myself first, So ill do a quick into then get on with it
Im becc nearly 23 & fulltime beauty therapist. i have a gorgeous daughter Carne who will be 5 in october and my partner Jase has a 3yr boy Jacob both from previous relationships, So down to it.. Jase and i have decided its time we had a baby of our own.. So i went to the doctor and she told me i need to stay off the pill for 3cycles before we start trying which i thought was fair enough.. this is where it gets sticky.. i have always had abnormal periods, i started off on the pill when i was about 15 decided it wasnt for me as i forgot to keep taking it, so went with the implanon.. but that was giving me all kinds of trouble so doctor told me take pill aswell or have it removed, so i had it removed and two weeks later i was pregnant with my daughter( so no "real" period or cycle), after i gave birth i just went straight back onto levlen ed.. but instead of taking the sugar pill i just kept going... so in the last 5ish years ive never had a "real" period only spot bleeding ( :O Yes i know how bad it is ) So back to it, doctor tells me 3 cycles b4 we start trying.. I took my last pill on the night of Tuesday May 4th and started bleeding the morning of May 6th Thursday, the bleeding has pretty much stopped as of yesterday.. i thought i would have bleed for alot longer being my first "real" period in a LONG time.. Has this happened to anyone else ? do you think it is normal or will become "normal".. any help/advice would be much appreciated, Doctor told me to chart cycles.. but i dont know if this is a real cycle.. very confused please help! lol

    firstly.. Welcome!

I'm probably not the best person to even attempt to answer this having had no similar experiences but I will offer my thoughts in the hope that it helps! Its probably a case of anything goes for the first few cycles after such a long time! Which would explain why the Dr said to wait a few cycles before TTC. I wouldn't be looking for 'normal' so to speak. Let your body get back in sync with itself before trying to work out what its doing!

Easier said then done I know but that's how I feel about my cycle at the moment. Having had only one AF since my pregnancy (my DD is 7 months) I'm trying to work out when the second one is coming! We've decided to start trying for no.2 and I've realised that my body is probably still sorting itself out which makes it difficult to chart my cycle etc.

Anyway, I hate to say give it time (cause I don't want to)... Good luck!

Welcome to BB! Good luck with your TTC journey.

I haven't heard of a dr saying to wait 3 mths before trying before. I'm not a dr though so there might be a reason for it. I would think just go for it and see what happens unless there is a medical reason to wait. Maybe he wants to run some tests? You can start charting anytime. I think the best time to start is on the first day of your period but anytime is fine. There is a website called Fertility Friend that a lot of ladies in here use to help chart their cycles. It might take a while for your body to get back into sync. I have heard it can take up to 12 months but that is rare. Most women go back to normal straight away. If you're not on the pill now, then this would count as a real cycle. You could also join a TTC Buddies thread if you want to! They are a great bunch of ladies going through the same thing and are excellent for support & answering random questions.

The reason doctors say to wait three months after coming off of b/c is that it gives your body a bit of time to regulate and begin ovulating. This is just a ballpark figure though, as it has taken my body almost a year to begin ovulatiing again. For some it might be the first month off. I would just start trying straight away, but that's just me.

    Good luck TTC hun! xox

    Hi Bec, Welcome to BB

I did the same as you years ago before trying to conceive as in taking the pill and skipping AF's. The Dr's normally ask you to wait 3mths so as your body has a chance to try and regulate and also get the Pill out of your system before your conceive.
What has happend sounds pretty normal as I remember thinking the same as in my AF wasn't that heavy and didn't last long after the first month off the pill. You may find after the second month it will be heavier and more like a 'normal' period if you can remember what they were like.
Alot of Dr's also like to run pre natal tests before TTC, just to make sure everything is ok. These tests would normally be to check Iron, your level of protection against German Measles and full blood count and other one's that I can't think of.
    Good luck with it all

Thanks so much for your replies girls,
All you information has helped in some way
You are right.. The doctor asked me to wait so that i could have a normal cycle again because i had been on the pill for so long.. It makes me wonder how fast it actually leaves your system thou ive only been off it since Tuesday and i have noticed a small amount of weight loss and my hormonal acne is clearing up! If we could start TTC now we most deffently would.. but i still have 10weeks of school left, And we also want to move into a bigger house before we settle down and try! Its going to be the slowest 3months of my life LOL
    Thanks for your help girlies!
