Gecko it's a low dose OCP. I couldn't cope with a stronger one - gave me too many migranes.

Hi. You are usually at your most fertile the first month after going off pill. Start taking your 0.5mg folic acid now and good luck! I hope your TTC journey is short and sweet.

I was on BCP for approximately 10 years with two or three breaks of 1-3 months in that time.

I came off BCP 6 months before starting TTC just to see what my body did. Fell pg first month trying. There seems to be genetics on my side though because my mother always fell in the first or second month of trying.

I think like others have said that it could depend more on you/your body/cycle as well as your partner's reproductive health than the length of time on BCP. I have friends who have taken longer to fall pg with less time on BCP than me. What were your cycles like before going on BCP?? That will probably be your best indicator of what they will return to. Sometimes BCP 'hides' cycle problems.

You should take folate up to 3 months before TTC, but one month is also ok I think. I took Blackmores Conceive Well but I wanted all the other vitamins and things like iron as well. The straight folic acid is much cheaper.

Good luck - I hope your TTC journey is short

    Hi all!

I am new to this site, and this is my first post. DF and I are going to be TTC in the coming months, and in anticiapation, I stopped taking the pill in January 08. Since then AF has only come 5 times, with an average cycle of 50 days. Did anyone else have a similar experience coming off the pill??? And like Gecko, I cannot remember my cycles before the pill. It has now been 70 days since AF, and have had 2 negative HPTs. I also use Maybe Baby and fern pretty much every other day. I am seeing my GP tonight, so will see what he has to say on the matter.

    Many thanks,

    Welcome

I was put on the pill due to irregular periods when I was 16. When I went off the pill at 25 (in January too after we got married ) it took 8 weeks for the first AF, then 7, then 6 weeks for a few then 5 week cycles till our first was conceived in December. Found out we were PG a few days after our first wedding anniversary!

There are herbal supplements you can take to regulate your cycle. I had success when TTC #3 with Vitex regulating and shortening my cycle down to 27 days. I was having average 39 day cycles before I started taking it.

From what I know now about my cycles, it could be of great benefit to you to learn your fertile signs and chart using your temperature and mucous now. You may be totally missing when your fertile time is, like I suspect I was.

I was on the pill for 12 years ... I didn't get AF back for over 6 months, and even then AF was all over the place (duration and regularity). Approx 10 months after coming off the pill I went to my GP to suss out why AF was so out of whack, was immediately referred to a FS as I wasn't ovulating properly and I was put on Serophene (like Clomid) tablets. I was pregnant within two months (with a little help from hubby).

My advice, for what it's worth, is that if you have any trouble with AF coming back after going off the pill, go get it checked out. Great to see you've had so many posts about gals getting pg so quickly after finishing with the pill!

    Good luck!

    Morning all!!!

First an update on my doctors appt last night. He was totally unconcerned about the irregularity of AF at the moment. He said its completely normal after coming off the pill, and my stressing about it probably makes it worse. With my wedding only 2 months away, he also said that the added stress (even though I dont think i'm stressed!) is also a factor. And its as if my body is determined to prove him right, I think I am ovulating today (ferning with MB, and mucous). Hopefully AF will grace me with her presence soon

All that being said, I also bought some Vitex last night as suggested by Raven - thank you, I never knew such a product existed until you mentioned it!

Gecko, glad to have someone on the journey with me too. Hope all goes well when you take your last little pill!

    Cheers

    Hi All
I was on the BCP for 10-11 yrs with very litle break. It took us 12 mnths TTC, but I never did any CM or temping etc - more go with the flow and not knowing heaps. My cycles were HUGELY irregular - first AF 14 wks after coming off pill, thren about 10-12 weeks for a couple and finally about 6 weeks... so I was not v likely to get preg!! I also travelled heaps for work and was v stressed... so what were the chances really!!! i was about the start getting 'scientific' about it all when we got preg...
This time around, have just stopped bf and have been on the mini pill...just finished that too... no AF yet so i went to chinese dr (acupuncture and herbs) to get cycle regular and then help TTC. i got my period 1 week after taking herbs... so now looking to regulate then shorten cycle and TTC in the next few mnths. I highly recommend herbs/acupuncture to get things regular and prepare and help with TTC.
FWIW my chinese dr mentioned that being on the pill for a longer time without breaks may help rather than hinder comapred to someone who stops and startsall the time....

GOOD LUCK!! Look fwd to hearing how it all goes!

    hi Melis81

Great to hear that the doc is happy

Never the less i think the others have a point in regards to the chinese Dr (acupuncture and herbs) to get cycle regular to help TTC, i guess we should keep that in mind as it seems to work... i will see what my AF is up to once i get rid of this one fingers cross she is not coming back ...

Who knows if everything goes well with the both of us we will be "belly buddies" for 9 month , really like that idea so keep me updated how it goes

Up date in my front: i took my last "active pill" last Sunday so technically i should be taking the sugar pills ( which i am not ) for this week and start again with the active one on Monday, but i woun't - instead i will keep my DH busy TTC hihi and
