i was told it was 12 weeks which is why its best to test at 18DPO BUT having said that just then out of curiosity (as isnt it the hcg that makes the tests positive) i just did a test and still positive although obviously pregnant i was under the impression after a certain time you'd get a false reading because of the drop in hcg .... sorry that wasnt any help!
ETA - fixed up due to tpying how many weeks i am rather than how many weeks i got told hcg drops DUH!!!

: mistake
I had two very, VERY feint positives after my baby was born (about 8-10 weeks after) and it turns out I had retained placenta. Probably not much help there just thought I'd add my two cents! Haha
Goodluck
that explains why i still got a positive then i thought it completely dropped off so ive learnt something!
hope your "friend" gets the outcome they deserve hehe although it does sound promising ... i know of a lady from another forum who had no idea she was pregnant as her very irregular and heavy periods continued she was very overweight so didnt notice a bump either the only thing she got was labour it was a magical moment for all but gives inspiration to never give up
Could your friend go get a regular u/s sooner? She might still need the followup, but one done sooner might be able to mroe quickly rule things in or out.
When you say pelvic ultrasound did they do a transvaginal only or did they also put the transducer on the outside of your abdomen? It can be very difficult to obtain clear images on people with high BMI as the layer of fat absorbs the ultrasound beam, making details harder to see. So even if there was a pathology there it can sometimes be difficult to see on an abdominal. By doing a TV ultrasound they can get closer to the organs of interest, while still checking out the surrounding soft tissue. So although you might think they didn't look where you said, they possibly did. (I hope you don't think i am being rude, )
If this pain is new and significant i would be going back to the dr. Unfortunately it is true that larger people have more aches and pains and stresses on their body than others, and often i guess these can be easily dismissed. But you need to be persistent. They most likely wouldn't do an MRI unless another imaging modality indicated it would be useful. But they could do plain film x-rays and/or a CT scan which may or may not show a problem. Sometimes changing doctors is more of a PITA than just being persistent with the one you already see. Tell them it is a lump that wasn't there before and it is REALLY painful. Ask what further steps can be taken to investigate it. Ask them to feel the lump. If the Dr is unwilling to help, get your files, go to new dr, tell them you've already had x,y,and z and you are really concerned and would like further investigation.
Those large cysts you speak of could cause this pain you are talking about..... But don't really explain the lump.... Unless they are so large they are compressing your bowl and pushing it forward?!
The other thing that could cause a pain like that is a back injury. If you have damaged a nerve of something it could easily radiate pain like that, although it doesn't account for the lump you describe.... But a trip to a chiro or an osteo might be useful as well.
Go back to the drs and ask for further investigation.
They did both JM, they did on my lower belly/upper thigh area first, for about 1 minute. Then she said to go pee (thank goodness!) and come back and have a TV one. I have a retroverted uterus as well as the excess weight, so I knew it was gonna happen. She did the TV, measured the endometrium (said it was unusually thick), measured both ovaries, measured the one large cyst and commented that there were several follicles. And that was it. No, you're not being rude hon I know my weight is an issue and I'm working on it.
The pain is not so new, but the lump is. I can't see it, I can only feel it, it's very hard. Just today I've started getting the pain I usually get when a cyst bursts, it's always on this side, so perhaps it'll burst on its own. NOT looking forward to that, the normal ones are bad enough, but if it's what I can feel from the outside, it's not gonna be pretty!
Actually I'm wrong, the scan isn't til the 12th. I'd much prefer a sooner one, but this is a special clinic with GYNO's who have specialised in women's imaging, so there's a bit of a queue. I'm not bleeding flat out, just spotting. It didn't occur to me that the back pain would be related, but there's no other explanation for it, it just started happening one morning.
Symptoms -
Nausea in afternoons, never vomiting (I don't tend to vomit anyway, even with gastro)
No nipple changes, but have grown about half a cup size
Core pain
Spotting
Exhausted - falling asleep at my desk around 10-10.30 and 2-3 every day, nanna naps on weekends (still using CPAP machine, so not sleep apnoea)
Hard lower abdomen
They're all I can think of at the moment. I've still got a test at home, so I'll do that with FMU tomorrow.
