Hi all,
A quick run down we are on our 2nd cycle of clomid and today is day 31 of my cycle.
I had a scan on day 15 and fs thought that I would ovulate late prob week after scan trouble was I was on holiday and couldn't have a scan so I used OPK's everyday for the whole week and the most I got was two faint lines on cycle day 21 and 22. When I came back I booked in for a scan on day 30 and the fs could see a large follicle and she said from the look of it and the lining she thinks that I prob did ovulate so she sent me for a blood test to see if ovulation had occured.
Now I am confused because she said that is ovulation had occured to stay on the same dose of clomid next cycle 100mg and if it hadn't occured to go up to 150mg but she didn't say anything about the chance of me actually being pregnant!
If I did ovulate on day 22 I would be 9dpo today so i am wondering why she wouldn't have just ordered a pregnancy test?
Any ideas would be appreciated!
a preg BT at 9DPO would quite possibly be inconclusive - they do a progesterone test to check for ovulation and if that is consistent, would assume that, if AF shows, you stay on same dose - if not, they go up. i would think if AF hasn't arrived by about CD 40 you could get a pg BT, but for now, the dr sounds like he is hedging his bets and working out what needs to happen if you're NOT pg.
Right now as Briggsy's girl has said, it is too soon to have a conclusive pregnancy blood test. Most doctors do not do so until you are two weeks overdue for your period, however some may do so after a few days. It is just so then they can have the most accurate results as possible for you. I do work in the healthcare field (not in fertility however), and what has happened in the past with early tests is that on many occasions a negative result can occur. The reason why this is so important is to remove any heartache a false negative pregnancy test can incur upon someone and unfortunately there have been cases of doctors being sued for telling patients they are not pregnant when they are especially when there have been issues surrounding the pregnancy.
Thank you all so much for your speedy replies!
I figured as much but you know how this ttc game can be, you want to know everything right away! I guess I was just a bit disappointed that the fs didn't say well if you did ovulate we could then do a preg test after that before starting the next dose. The way she was talking just made me feel she didn't have much hope but now that I think about it maybe she just didn't want to give me false hope! I guess I will just have to wait and see if I did ovulate and go from there!
The only other problem I have with the pcos is that I wasn't getting regular periods and induced them using primolut so I could then use clomid. So I would have to make sure that I wasn't pregnant before starting primolut again.
Anyway I guess I will keep my fingers crossed for good results on Monday.
Thank you all again!
if the clomid made you ovulate, and you don't fall pg, you will get a visit from AF as you'll have a luteal phase. the reason you've had to induce her visit in the past is because you weren't ovulating so no LP with AF at the end.
i've been through a number of cycles of assisted conception in one way or another. any that resulted in ovulation resulted in AF visiting if i wasn't pg.... HTH
Thank you!
I was wondering about that so if I find out on Monday that I did ovulate I will either get AF and if not then I can do a hpt! Makes sense!
Thank you so much.
It might have been too early for a blood test, especially if the ovulation date was uncertain. You might not be far enough along to get a reliable reading. The progesterone test should tell her for sure if you ovulated though, and she can use that information to assess your dosage. I guess if a negative pregnancy blood test comes back, that wont be able to help her as much as the ovulation blood test.
Good luck and I hope the witch stays away for you.
i understand your frustration. They wont send u for a blood test to find out if you are pregnant yet. The whole purpose of going on clomid is to get pregnant and they know this. One problem at a time tho. Her thinking u ovualted isnt really good enough. I had to ring my OB when i was on clomid too as i had a blood test at day 21 to see if i ovulated. I did, but there was nothing he could do about it then. I just waited to see if AF would arrive and when it didnt i took a POAS test. My advice to you is just wait it out and wait for the blood test results. If it comes back that u did indeed "o" then mayb think about going to do a preg test. HTH
