    Idiotic Question - Conception

Ok, this might be a silly question, but I think I am losing some brainmatter and I can't for the love of me figure this out

You get your period, then after 14 days you ovulate. Ok, now you have sex and you are lucky that a sperm gets into the egg's nickers. Now is that conception???
Then comes Implantation, right. How long after conception does implantation occures? Then if you HAVE implantation, you can only test pg after 14 days with HPT, right?? But then they calculate your due date from the day of your last period. So you are infact always two weeks "before" your time, kwim??

Sorry, I am totally not getting english today and have been reading to much and now I am like a cameleon on a light show!! DUMB-STRUCK!!

When they calculate your due date, they actually allow for the two weeks pre-conception. Because your LMP is usually the most concrete date that most women can remember (with the exception of TTC'ers who tend to know when they conceived down to the second) it is the most useful "landmark" to base a due date calculation off. A normal pregnancy from conception to birth is 260ish days, give or take 14 days each side. But the due date calculators that are used are padded out by 14 days to account for the two weeks lag time from LMP to conception.

    Hope this makes sense...

    Yup, youve got it..
But im not sure how long it takes for implantation..it depends on the person i guess..but i think its within the first week after conception? I could be wrong..its been a age since ive read up on conception and all that jazz..

Ok, Thanks Micheal. That does make sense. Just wanted to get my bearings straight.

I am just trying to delay me doing a HPT. I think I might be pregnant (sore breasts, bit sick in the stomach, DH says so ) but I am scared that it's BFN and then I'll be dissapointed and frankly it's WAAAAY to early for a HPT. By my calculations I am only 5dpo, but last time I thought I was only 6 weeks pg and I turned out to be 9 weeks, so my calculations SUCK!! So I spent quite a while on the net reading up and got confussed in the prosess.

Most HPTs recommend waiting until the first day of your missed period. The second part of the cycle is mosr regular than the first in women - in other words, when women vary from a 21 day cycle to a 32 day cycles, it is usually the bit before ovulation that is varying; the bit afterwards is a fairly constant 14 days. So testing on the first day of your missed period usually gives you a reliable 14 DPO time lapse from conception, if it occurred.

Once more, any experts feel free to jump in...

You are pretty much on the mark there. When temping I found I could ovulate anywhere between CD12 & CD17 (not the traditional 14 days) you could find your O day changes too. For this pregnancy I O'd CD12. I tested positive 10 days after O day with a sensitive test so it is possible to test earlier than what they recommend. Implantation is said to occur between 4 - 10 days. They say the earlier you implant the best chance your bubs has of survival. My bub implanted at 6DPO (I got a temp dip at 6&7DPO followed by a rapid rise) and has been a sticker.
