Just wanted some Hope and Advice

    Hi Girls

I fell pregnant in Sep 08 and it sadly ended in a ectopic at 7w and 4d. I had surgery and they removed my left tube. At the time of surgery they checked my remaining right tube and were concerned that the tube looked blocked and damaged. I had a HSG lat week and the technician advised me that the right tube was not completely blocked and was getting a little trickle of fluid through on the images. He said that it was not gushing through like he would expect to see on a normal healthy tube but said that it was not completly blocked like they had originally thought. Of course I am concerned about another ectopic due to the tube but was wondering whether or not anyone has had or has heard of a similar situation and whether they have gone on to a healthy pregnacy??

I guess Im so worried about another Ectopic but also worried about starting IVF...

    Any advise?

I am sorry for your loss and also for the removal of your tube.

I have seen women in similar circumstances go on to fall pg and have healthy babies. If Possums sees this she may be able to give you a bit more comfort too.

Thanks for your reply girls, I am seeing my Fertility doctor tomorrow so I guess he will advise whether or not it is too risky to try, or whether he suggests to try and unblock the tube or whether he believes that we should start IVF

Im terrified of another ectopic but even more terrified of the cost of IVF (no health insurance) and the injections!! I am terrified of needles and cant imagine being able to give them to myself let alone letting any one else give them to me..

I guess Im also scared that IVF is not going to work or a BPF will be fo far away!!

I will let you know how I go today.

Thanks Dusty - I hope possum see's this too, has she been through the same sort of situation?

    Hi Alana
I was wondering how you had been getting along. IT is great news that you have 1 tube that isnt blocked... but I guess your dr will have the best advice (or others who have been through the same thing). It must have been a hard few months for you.
I hope you get your miracle soon - whatever way it takes and will be thinking of you. xxx

Just an update - I went to see my fertility doctor yesterday afternoon and he has advised that we push forward to IVF as he doesnt believe there is much of a chance of a pregnacy happening though my right tube. I am going to Bali in the start of april for 3 weeks so I will be starting IVF after that.
My doctor has said that in the meantime if I want to continue with clomid to get me through the wait I am more than welcome to do so. He has warned me about the chances of another ectopic but has also said that he doesnt think the egg will be able to get through anyway to cause an ectopic. I guess I am happy to take that chance in the miracle that it may happen. My doctor will be monitoring me closely if I do fall pregnant in the chance that it could be an ectopic.

I am trying to be postive about IVF, I guess I just didnt mentally prepare myself for going down this road. I think that I have to put my chin up and throw myself into it so we can hopefully have a baby soon

My doctor has also said that he believes I will have a really good chance with IVF due to the following reasons:

    - I am young - 26
    - He knows that he can get me ovulating
    - And I have fallen pregnant previously (even though it was an ectopic)

    So I am being positive

Thanks again girls for all your support

    Hi there
Well it will be good to have a plan anyway - I guess it will take some time to get your head around it all but it sounds like you have a great chance...
best of luck - and enjoy bali!!

Thanks for your replies girls, just wondering whether you think Im taking a big risk by trying the Clomid for the inbetween months and taking a chance of having another ectopic? Would you do it?

Am I just being silly and impatient? Should I just wait to start IVF?

    Any thoughts ??

    Hi Alanna.

I had an ectopic at the start of 2004. At the time, the ultrasound picked up blockages on both tubes, as I remember one was about the size of a 20 cent coin, the other a 50 cent coin. The baby turned out to be the smaller, and the larger was a massive cyst. When they took the baby and it's tube, they drained the cyst on the other one after trying to decide if they should just remove that tube also. They told me my chances were very limited to fall pregnant again naturally. I was devastated, and didn't handle the whole thing very well. I knew I should get checked before conceiving again, but I never even made an appointment. After 12 months of ttc naturally, I just gave up and figured I had been rendrered sterile. So I stopped taking note of dates for AF (which were messed up anyway after the op). But then I felt so ill one day that I had to do a test., Went to my doctor and got a scan, and the baby was where it should be and 6 weeks size. Every medical person I spoke to about the pregnancy was amazed at how lucky I was. My beautiful DD will be 3 in June!

We were ttc again for 6 months when she was 6 months old, and nothing. last November we decided we would try again, and (although it ended in very early miscarriage - not ectopic) I managed to fall pregnant straight away! After the loss we did something we had never done before and started trying again right away and I am assumed to be about 5-7 weeks! Ectopic not ruled out yet, as I am spotting, but hcg levels nice and normal.

So anyway, I hope this gives you hope!
