If you know exactly when you O, it should be easy. If you DTD about 2-3 or so days before you O, your more likely to concieve a girl, but if you DTD closer to O day, your more likely to concieve a boy. Google some info, or im sure there is more on the threads, but thats the general idea of it all, going by the knowledge that girl spermies swim slow but live longer, and boy spermies swim fast and die quick.

Hi, I too am hoping to gender sway for a little girl. I have two step-sons and would love to give them a sister (although I'd love a boy too, lol). I've done copious amounts of research and found that when it comes down to actual studies that have made it to journals, the "timing" method doesn't seen to hold up very well.

The theory behind the timing method is based on the the fact that female sperm are bigger, stronger and slower than their male spermy counterparts. This should mean that if you bd a couple of days before you ovulate and then abstain, the female sperm will have the time to get to the right spot before the egg is released, and that the male sperm, being smaller and weaker, will have started to die off, giving the female sperm a better chance of catching the egg.
The theory is great... but in practise apparently there are too many variables and the stats don't show the results that would be expected. It pushes the odds slightly in favour of a girl, but it also lowers the chance of you actually falling pregnant too.

Instead of the timing method, I am using the "ionic equilibrium" theory. This theory is often the basis behind many diet theories as well. Our eggs are surrounded by a membrane that contains the receptor sites that the sperm bind to before one is able to fertilise the egg. The ratio of magnesium and calcium to sodium and potassium can effect the receptor sites and make them more receptive to one sex sperm and repel sperm of the other sex. In order to increase the chances of a girl you should increase your intake of magnesium and calcium. And to increase your chances of a boy you should increase your intake of sodium and potassium. It's recommended that you start doing so 6-8 weeks prior to conception. Although I have only found one study that was done on a large number of woman (7810 woman with a success rate between 95-97%), it claims to be a published study, but I am unable to locate the original journal article. I have found a published journal article that was conducted on rats (isn't everything tested on rats before people because of the similar results found?) which showed a statistically significant difference in sex ratio in rats on the different diets. If you want a copy of either of the studies feel free to pm me and I'll give you the links.

I've been taking magnesium and calcium supplements since DH and I first started try to conceive, so hopefully soon I'll be able to tell you first hand whether it has worked for us!

Good luck on your TTC journey!!
