To all those lovely ladies TTC at the moment I thought I'd share a little piece of wisdom my Acupuncturist shared with me when we were preparing to concieve our DS. She practises Japanese acupuncture which is a little rarer but so much gentler than traditional Chinese and uses visualisation techniques together with the needles etc.
To cut a long story short I had chemo treatments when I was 32 for breast cancer and we weren't sure if we would be able to concieve after it so to give myself the best chance of success I saw an Acupuncturist in Newcastle that specialised in fertility and womens health. After we talked for a while at the first session the very first thing she asked me was how attached to my belly bar I was. I asked her why and she said that there is a direct line of energy that runs from a womans heart to her ovaries and uterus and the metal bar sitting right across the middle was blocking the pathway.
I straight away said I do like it but if you believe it is in the way it's gone!
In the following treatments she worked on cleansing the pathway and opening it back up to recieve the love and energy from my heart to my important bits! Amazingly within 3 months we were pregnant and our dream of a family was on the way to becoming a reality.
I'll never know if it was just a flook or if it worked but I was willing to do just about anything as my Oncologist had told us the older you are when you start chemo the more likely it it is to affect your fertility.
Our DS arrived safely into this world and when he was 11 months old we concieved our DD without any trouble in the first cycle.
Despite the past I feel so lucky everyday and truely blessed whenever I look at my precious son and feel my little princess give me a kick hello.
For all others TTC perhaps it's worth a try if you have a naval piercing to take it out, traditional Japanese medcine and acupuncture is thousands of years old and I believe their wisdom and insight into the subtle energies within us is something to think about.
I have heard the same thing about naval piercings - about the naval being a major energy point and how a piercing can block it.
I used to have a naval piercing but took it out several years ago when I needed a laparoscopy for endometriosis. I haven't put any jewellery back in to the piercing and I have had no further menstrual problems, even after going off the pill. So there may be something in this.
that's really interesting....
I had one but got it removed about 6yrs ago now, it kept getting infected, my body rejected it so after 12mths of keeping it in, i took it out and that was that... still have a scar too!
Did she say anything about that?!?! about after its gone? even if you dont get acupuncture done? I wonder if my path is cleared now its not there... hhmmm
ohhh interesting, I also had one but kept getting infected, so took it out. That would have to be about 8 years ago...
I'd be interested in hearing about the acupunturist in newcastle.... we will start TTC in October, but I also worry about my family history so knowing there is someone great in town to go to if there is a problem....
Hi Alicia, the acupuncturist's name is Joelene Azzopardi and she runs the Sosho Womens Health Centre in the Junction Shopping Village. She specialises in womens health and fertility and also sees many women using IVF, give her a try she's really lovely. As a bonus, when we moved down here to Melbourne she was completing her Doula training so she is also a Doula if your interested in one!
so can an acupuncturist tell you how fertile they think you are by some tests they do?!?! Or not really?? I want to go see one if we can't conceive within the first 6mths....
thanks Kris - that is great to know. I have starting reading about Doulas and my girlfriend is training to be one - pity she lives in perth!!! But to know one around here is great.
I also was thinking if we weren't pregnant within the first 4-6mths, I would need to seek some help and if I can do it naturally I would prefer it, at first anyway
Hi Renstar, no they don't do any tests they help to clear blocked pathways and get you charting and see from your charts what your cycle is like. Depending on whether the acupuncturist is also trained in TCM they may prescribe chinese herbs for you.
Hmmm, I don't really believe in the whole energy flow thing. I have a navel ring (which I'm very attached too ) and I got pg OK (after 6 months of TTC). I'm at 6 months now and not wanting to give it up. The day my belly stretches too tight for me to wear it anymore I'll give it up, but for now I'm still attached.
Yes, it's not for everyone and part of having complementary therapy like acupuncture etc is believing that it is working. Eastern medicine has been around for thousands of years, before western medicine was even thought of so I believe there must be something in it. It is so gentle and non invasive and it really worked for me but I do recognise that it's not everyones cup of tea.
I was very attached to my navel ring too but you can't have a navel ring when you're 60 so it had to go some time! I do miss it though I thought it was kinda cool!
