    New to BB

    Hi everyone

I'm pearshaker. I'm very new to here, but am already finding some very helpful advice and info on conception and pregnancy.

Hubby and I have decided to begin TTC (the only acronym I know so far!) in the next few months. I have PCOS and type 2 diabetes (diagnosed in Dec 09). I have both under control with the assistance of a good diet and metformin. I have just gone off the pill (that was assisting me with my PCOS) as of the other day.. and i'm going to try and start charting my cycle (to the degree that PCOS will allow me).

I am the first to say I don't know alot about conception and planning for pregnancy. Since being diagnosed with PCOS (Jan 09) and then diabetes later in the same year, I have since learnt alot about my body, but it still keeps me guessing on the best of days.

Hubby and I have also just moved interstate to Canberra from Brisbane, so i'm on the hunt for a good ob/gyn and endocrinologist here in Canberra. We're looking at settling in Goulburn (an hour from Canberra) in the gorgeous country setting - perfect to raise a family :-)

I hope to learn lots from everyone.. and perhaps get some tips on the best way to start out on our little journey to growing our family. It'd also be nice to make a few friends along the way :-)

    Welcome to BB

I too have PCOS i was diagnosed in June last year. When i heard the words Polycystic Ovary Syndrome the dream of having a baby seemed so far away, i was told that concieving naturally was unlikely and i would more than likely need assistance but i am due to have my first end of next month.

I was too placed on Metformin (diabex XR to be exact) for my insulin resistance. I was on it for 3 months and in that 3 months i lost 10kgs. I never got my insulin checked after.. I was told that Metformin is used to help women fall pregnant as it makes us very fertile but i still had it in my head that it wouldnt happen. Especially when my cycles never became regular.

I was so surprised when i ovulated after my last AF as the one before was months prior and i thought you had to have a few in a row to ovulate..

Don't lose hope. My best advice is not to stress or worry. Being on a good diet and being on metformin will help your chances.

    Hey Pearshaker!

I am quite new to this as well although I am finding it very easy and there is also a forum with all the acronyms in it which is really good!

I am also on metformin, and have been for about 3 months.. so far nothing, my doctor has me going to see Dr Simone Campbell. She is located in Canberra and is supposed to be one of the best...

    Good luck with TTC!!

    Hi everyone

thanks so much for all of your warm welcomes :-)

I'm so anxious, nervious, excited and scared all at the same time. I'm not even sure where to start. There's so much to learn in this whole process, and my medical issues seem to make things just that little more complicated. But of course, I am much more fortunate that some women I know.

I don't suppose anyone has a good starting tip for this? ha, that's a loaded question i'm sure- but i'd love to hear some suggestions.

Hubby and I were going to start last month, but have decided another month to wait. Hubby wants it to happen naturally lol but he understands it can't be natural in every sense of the word because i'm on the pill for PCOS - so i have to stop that before anything happens, and before i can really understand how my body/cycle works since I was diagnosed with PCOS.

Mollie89: Thanks for letting me know about Dr Campbell. I have yet to find myself a good GP down here as i'm new to the area. Hopefully i'll find a good doctor faster than i've found friends lol Still early days yet, I know :-)

It's going to be a very big learning curve for me.. and poor hubby is along for the ride :-)

Oh i'm loving Canberra. It's so beautiful here. I've been in Brisbane 20 years, so this is the biggest move i've ever done! I'm inspired to take my camera everywhere down here (not in a feaky touristy type of way though!) Hubby is from Canberra, so he's happy to be back too :-)

Thank you, that's really kind of you. I would love the numbers. Would you be able to PM them to me, please? Where about is she based?

    You're a champ, thanks so much :-)

Hi darling, thanks for posting on my newbie thread, sounds like we're in the same boat with a lot of things! I have PCOS too and have been told I have insulin resistance, and came off the Pill in June even though we're not strictly trying yet. I'm hoping with the right medical help it'll all happen, so fingers crossed.
    Good luck to you hon.

    My pleasure, sweets.

I'm coming off the pill after my next cycle.. We thought it might be better to come of it after a few things happening over the next couple of weeks have settled down. We're in the process of buying a house :-) Never good to mix stress with coming off pill - i've had issues with my cycle going all sorts of messed up when i'm under a bit of stress - so yeah :-)

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you :-) Hit me up whenever you want to chat about your hits and misses :-)

Good luck with the house buying, where abouts are you looking?
Dr Morton is based in Kaleen, she is in the same practice as another good Dr named Dr Wessel. I cant PM you the number until I get my posts up, you have to have like 50 or more posts before you can But I am sure if you looked in the white pages you would find it under Dr Voon, he is the head Dr in the practice!!
    Good luck!

    Cool Hello fellow newbie

From one newbie to another I'm sure we'll find this place helpful... I'm also starting to follow my cycle, and man it's difficult to know what to put in it and what not too... I've actually downloaded one onto my iphone which sends the details back to the website... technology these days and no one will know on the train that I'm updating my details
