The Not Trying To Not Get Pregnant Thread

I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who is not trying to not get pregnant, in other words, while you aren't deliberately trying to get up the duff, you're not exactly using contraception either and come what may. I'm also kind of interested in seeing if there is a huge difference in getting the pink lines between healthy women who don't have fertility issues and are deliberately TTC and those who are more kay sara.

We haven't used conception since having DS but then again I haven't seen AF yet, so just do a pregnancy test every now and then just in case.

For those who have done this, what is the age gap between children, or how long have you not been trying to not get pregnant and haven't?

This is essentially us - at least, I fit here more than I fit in the LTTTC section, because we're not doing AC. I have successfully conceived 4 times, but have had no successful pregnancies. We're coming up to 5 years in August.

Having said that, at the moment we are using contraception, because I can't handle another loss. Trying to convince a doctor that there's a problem beyond my weight is another question.

we started doing this about 6 months after ds1 was born. i had the mini pill but decided not to bother taking it and just sort of see what happened. well ds2 is here now and almost turning 2
it was the best thing we ever did!

So, you mean like Not Trying / Not Preventing? Perhaps mods might consider a section for this?

We weren't trying, but we weren't actively preventing either... #2 due in 2 weeks!

We decided to 'unofficially try to conceive' (as we called it ) #2 straight after having DS1 - he had taken 3 years (and many fertility treatments) to get him so we felt if it happened naturally then it was meant to be...and it was! I'd only had 3 AF's and hadn't really worked out a pattern between them and I had only just finished BF (within a month) - so we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered we were pregnant with DS2...they are 20months difference (conceived on DS1's 1st birthday ).

Yep. The way I put it was pretty convoluted wasn't it, LOL.

For our last 2 we where not actively trying but not really not trying...if it happened it happened.
We feel 4 mths after DD2 and DD2 and DD3 are only 11 mths apart...then we fell again quickly with DS4 and there is only 13 mths between dd3 and ds4...so 24 months between all three

Yep that's us too. DH works away so that's pretty good contraception most of the time, but he's left whether or not we have a third bub up to me, and fair dinkum I cannot decide....so we will see what will be. DS is 2 on saturday and DH is home on leave this week so there may just be the same age gap between all three (2y10m) but who knows.

I have had two chem pregs and a MC in the last 10months though. It took me nearly 2 years to get DS like this with only 2 months of seriously trying and a mc at 12weeks.

For us, I discovered in the 4 years between DD and DS that I just can't handle any type of hormone based contraception - it just wreaks havoc on my body, which doesn't leave us many options. We can't stand condoms, so the best idea for us was that DH would go get the snip when we have our quota of kids. I would, at this time, happily have two more, perhaps three, so we're just going with the flow. Talking of flows... has anyone become pregnant without getting their AF back after a previous pregnancy? Did it make a difference, or were there any issues? I could see that getting a reliable EDD might be a little more over the place...

Our 'not trying' was having sex at suspected time of Ovulation but not worrying about charting and if we missed potential o no matter.
This little squishtook 8 or 9 cycles.

We are thinking of using this method. Its one of our options anyway. The other option is for DH to have the snip and stop at 3 as other then condoms or abstaining from love making its not a great idea for me to be on contreception and I know how great our track record is with using either method NOT. Obviously if we do this we are basically very open and happy with the decision that no4 could grace us with their presence and no4 could always turn into no4 and 5 although very unlikely seeing I have many fertility issues (a friend did this and had twins) I'd be very very happy if I did fall pregnant even if it meant a 9-10month gap but when I plan on fully BF and AF didn't return with DD for over a yr chances are slim even if I had proven good fertility.

This is us too as AF still hasn't returned after having DD. We'll probably start actively trying from July if not UTD before then.
