    Ovulation Q

    Hi all,

I was talking with my SIL this morning who is not actively TTC but monitoring her cycles for when they decide to start. She has noticed that in the last 4 cycles she has had O pain only on the left side. I told her its probably quite normal but because many of us dont have obvious O pain that we probably dont know which side its coming from all the time.

Can someone tell me if there is cause for her to be concerned about having a lazy right ovary? I told her if she is worried to talk to her gp or gyno - but thought id ask you ladies for some advice so I can let her know some more..

    Thanks,
    Lisa

I thought several follicules develop from both overies, but it just depends which one matures and is released first.

It used to be thought that the ovaries alternate, but that is not the case. You can reassure her that she is quite normal

Yeah its normal : ) My O pain seems to alternate, 2 cycles right, one cycle left, two right, one left and sometimes two left every now and then.

lisa, i was told my left ovary is the dominant one, though i have never had O pains, maybe she gets pain fr her dominant one? Also as Tanya said, eggs aren't released from alternating ovaries. Could be that it's being released from the left more often hence the pain.
Of cos, if she's worried she can go see her gp who can arrange for an ultrasound or something.
