    PCOS and low sperm morphology

I am new to this forum and just hoping to get some help from you all lovely ppl.

DH(35) and I(31) have been TTC for about 7 months now without success. I have PCOS and recently DH got SA done and his sperm morphology is only 3%. Now, we've been to FS and he recommends going straight to IVF because he says DH's sperm morphology is too low for either Clomid or IUI.
We're just confused and shocked, trying to figure out the best option to go for.
IVF just seems so drastic to us

    So my question is,
    - should we go straight for IVF or try clomid+ IUI first?( FS says very less chance, about 7% )
    - is IVF our only chance? If it is,then better to go for it now than later I think.

I have also been toying with the idea of acupuncture. Maybe give it a go before going for IVF??
DH has started taking Menevit and me Vitex. I am just trying to do watever I can to make it work..

Any advice on this matter would be really appreciated. Feels like we're in a crossroad right now, don't know which way to go ((

Sorry, didn't see this before. Sperm count can be raised quite easily, by changing to boxers if he doesn't already wear them, drinking heaps of water, staying away from alcohol and soft drinks - ESPECIALLY diet soft drinks, taking Menevit. He can get acupuncture as well. I think it's about 3 months before you'd see a change in his count/morphology.

As for PCOS, I've conceived 4 times with PCOS and DH with very low count. I personally wouldn't recommend going to IVF straight away when there's other things you can try, unless there's other factors to consider, like your age. There's a PCOS conference in Melbourne this October, I'm going because I think it's gonna be brilliant for info, most of the doctors over here aren't up on PCOS.

    Good luck

Hi babyonmind, welcome to BellyBelly. Sorry the circumstances are not happier.
You might have more luck posting in Long Term TTC (there are subforums for male-factor infertility, IUI, IVF, etc)
Morphology is a tricky one - not sure there's much you can do about it Some swear by certain supplements, which may improve motility (though I'm not sure about morphology).
We faced a similar issue. DH's morphology was not quite so bad, but his motility was very low, so we were recommended to skip straight to IVF. Success rates with OI or IUI are much lower to begin with, and with sperm issues those would only be lower. Although it's less invasive and cheaper per go, you could well end up having a lot of "gos" - which is the rationale behind recommending IVF first.

It may be possible to do something about the PCOS, but that doesn't help the sperm, which is the main issue. Still, I think trying to improve your health and wellbeing first is a great idea - it might help you out with conception, but at the very least it would help you both feel healthier, adn that can't be a bad thing. At your age, I think you've got a little time, maybe give it 6 months and see how you go?
