I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right spot, so please re-direct me if I'm wrong...
We have been TTC since December 06 and I started charting about 4 months ago. I seem to be ovulating quite late in my cycle (around day 24 of a 30 day average cycle). I was reading that if the egg is fertilised, the embryo implants between 6 - 12 days after ovulation. But by then, i already have my period again. Does this mean that even if I have conceived, the embryo can't attach?
Hi Kellbell,
The phase between ovulation and your period should be at least 14 days....anything less and I have heard that you can have trouble keeping a pregnancy.
Are you seeing a GP or FS?
Have you had any blood tests or scans?

How do you know that you are O'ing around CD24? For a 30 day cycle - that is very late. Is your temperature rise sluggish? I ask because a temp rise can happen a few days after O and I am wondering whether you are actually O'ing earlier than CD24.
If you are O'ing on CD24 and have a 30 day cycle, then you need to see your doctor because it is possible that you have a luteal phase defect - the reason for which needs to be checked - a common reason is that the corpus luteum (the crater in your ovary left by the egg) is insufficient, meaning it does not produce enough progesterone or does not produce it for long enough.
The normal luteal phase is between 11 and 16 days - 14 is considered average but it is quite possible to concieve with a luteal phase shorter than this - mine used to be about 12 days. A luteal phase less than 11 days should be checked out because it can contribute to fertility problems.
Kelbel, I'm with ticklish - a 6 day LP is most likely too short for you to conceive - my understanding is that anything 10 days or under is dicey at best. If you are certain that you are only Oing 6 days before you get AF I would be looking for a fertility specialist and get yourself checked out - the sooner you find out what is going on, the sooner you can get any issues (if there are any) fixed. If you have been charting, you should have some helpful info to take with you.
10 days and under is considered something to to go checked. If your luteal phase is more than 10 days its ok. But sounds like you need to get your progesterone tested! Go to the Docs and ask for the test, and wait until you are 7 DPO to get the test done. Good Luck!!
I'd be seeing a doctor, that LP is too short. I have read anything over 10 days is OK. A short LP (7 days or less) can be a symptom of peri menopause (can't remember where I read that but it was somewhere on the net).
