This is mainly directed at mums of two of more kids who have been BFd as I'm interested to see if there is any pattern to when AF returns (or, if there's no rhyme or reason to it, which is what I suspect).
When did AF return after having your children?
With DS1, BF'd for 13 months, I didn't get AF back though I obviously ovulated because I conceived DS2 around the same time DS1 turned 1.
DS2 turns 1 in under 2 weeks. He's BFd 3 times a day minimum. No sign of AF and definitely not pg.
DH and I are hoping the conception gods are smiling on us in 2011 ... but when I haven't had AF return, it's a bit hard to TTC (though hubby reckons that shouldn't stop us ). And as I'm keen to time conception to improve our chances of a girl, well ... I just wish AF would make an appearance. Never thought I'd say that!!
DD1 - breastfed for 8 months, AF returned at 6 weeks
DD2 - breastfed for 10 months, AF returned at 6 weeks
DD3 - breastfed still, AF returned last week (4 months)
DD1 breastfed til 18 months, but slept through from very very early...AF back at 9 months
DD2 still feeding 3 times a day at 21 months, fed through the night til 16 months...AF back at 6 months (ripped off IMO )
So I never get a real break!! My cycle after dd1 was all over the place as I went in the mini pill. After dd2 and ds it went back to 28, but it all over the place because of the implanon.
Both babies were exclusively b/f for 6 months and then their b/feeds were supplemented with food.
DS1 - AF returned 4 months after delivery - cycles ranged from 26-28 days until DS2 was conceived.
DS2 - AF returned 2.5 months after delivery - cycles ranged from 25-27 days, but in the past year have reduced down to 21-24 days!
with DD it was 6 weeks but that was with the minipill and cycles were all weird for a really long time following that whole phase.
with DS it was 10months.
Thanks everyone. Gee, it sure varies, doens't it. Both my boys slept through the night from an early age (DS1 from 8 weeks, DS2 from 3 weeks) but it apparently hasn't affected AF where I'm concerned.
What I didn't think to mention initially was that I went on Clomid to conceive DS1 because my cycle was up the putt. And that's why DS2 was a surprise package.
I'm not particularly concerned I haven't had AF yet, but in another few months I'll head to my GP to see what she reckons. I'm not inclined to seek assistance to conceive another baby (nothing beyond Clomid, at least) but if we're to have another baby I'd like it to be soon-ish only because of my age.
