    Shettles method

DH and i are going to start ttc in a few months and we are hoping for a little princess this time so we are going to try the shettles method. Has anyone used this method and been successful? Have you got any tips for me to make it most successful? I understand the timing of sex part of the shettles method, are there any other important considerations to take into account? If we are blessed with another prince we will be over the moon but we would like to have a little princess to complete our family.

Your advice woud be appreciated, thanks!

I have a good friend who is currently pregnant having used the shettles method. They were very strict about their timing of sex, and also about their diet. They both cut out all salt and perhaps other things well before and during ttc- I think the reasoning behind it goes that "girl" sperm survive better in a more alkaline environment (or perhaps the opposite).

Yet to see if they actually produced a girl or not, but I do know that they did more than time their ttc. It actually looked pretty tough! It also took them a bit longer to get pg than with their first, perhaps because the opportunities were more limited due to having to time the sex.

I'm pretty sure my sister used this method to get her girls.

I was told by a friend that if you have a cycle where you O on day 14 - to dtd on days 7-11 only - and NOT any other time. I'm pretty sure my sister followed something like this too.

FWIW - we DTD on day 9 of my cycle (O'd on day 14) and I got DD.... sooooo... you never know!

I think personally - you are going to get what you are SUPPOSED to get. And no "method" is going to change fate

You might find this interesting reading http://forums.bellybelly.com.au/foru...nder-sway.html

We did the Shettles Method for TTC a girl and my body decided to O early (CD 12 for the first time ever!) therefore it's possible the reason it failed for us was the deed was done accidentally too close to O. We decided to try 2 days before O instead of 3 but my early Oing made it one day before. We weren't conceiving at 3 days before O and it may have worked if we had given it more time.

This bub was conceived from DTD 4 days before O so time will tell if the method works inadvertently. I have to make it clear that we weren't TTC at the time at all. I was avoiding DTD before my fertile time (or so I believed ).
This was posted before we found out we were having a girl so I can vouch for timing being more important than anything!

....Could have written this myself...as it relates directly to our #4 baby....and low and behold we got a boy......totally, totally agree with Arimeh....i think its pure coincidence these 'methods' make you think you got what you set out for....

    Have fun trying though.....

Thanks for the replies ladies. I know that at the end of the day there will always be a level of chance but my yearning to have a daughter makes me want to try anything to fulfill that dream. I love my precious boy more than anything but i still feel some jealousy when people have a baby girl. Its silly i know and i feel really guilty for thinking it but i guess i am a person who likes to control things and this makes me feel like i have some control over it.

There's nothing at all wrong with wanting a particular sex honey - I wanted DS to be a girl and I was pretty devastated when I found out he was a boy....

Things have a way of working out just the way they are supposed to. Follow the recommendations because then you can't beat yourself up for not trying everything possible

With Nina we dtd the day before I Ovulated (I O'd on day 14). With Emily, we believe we dtd the day after I ovulated. We were ttc with Nina, but Emily was a surprise baby.
So I didn't use any method. But a couple of girls in my Sept 06 used the shettles method and both had girls.

Well, we are currently TTC #4.

We have 3 boys and would desperately love a girl so atm we are doing everything we can to sway for a girl. As Mel said - that way even if we do end up with another boy at least i know in my heart that i did everything i could.

I feel deep down that it doesnt matter what i do - i will still end up with another DS - (i will pass out if i end up with a girl) - but i am prepared to give it a red hot go !
My DH is one of 6 boys. On his side of the family we have 2 nieces and 6 nephews (plus our 3 boys) so the odds are against me........

So - i am another who craves something that i feel everyone else around me seems to have. This is my last chance !

So Good luck to me and good luck to you - bring on the pink bundles !
