    Sperm testing

Just wondering if it's advisable to get your mans sperm tested after 9 mths TTC. I think it's my prob with possible endo but it's just so when we go back to the gynae at the 12 mth mark we are well prepared. Also where do you go to get this done. At your local GP? Thanks.

Hi Bou, Normally they advise you to wait until the 12 month mark but you may be able to get in earlier.

You will possibly need a referral from a fertility specialist rather than just your GP depending on your clinics.

Pop in to see your GP and he/she will be able to point you in the right direction

You can get your family GP to request a sperm test for you. It's available through any lab all the DR needs to put on the request form for the path lab is fertility evaluation and the lab will do the rest! If there is a Sullivan and Nicolaides lab in Gladstone they should be able to perform this test for you.

If you do get it done check with the lab if you can get a collection jar ahead of time rather than have to go there and do it. It's way hard for guys to perform anywhere but home. You then have to race it down to the collection centre & then they'll send it off for you.

Yep,normal GP can do it. Dorevitch or Melb Pathology here in Melb and it is free.If you go to a specialist the test will be more comprehensive, but you may have to pay for it. I think we had one done after 7 months of trying. They do say doing 3 samples is the best way for the most accurate result. We got back a good result the first time, so didn't bother doing anymore. I went into the Dorevitch pathology place and got the sample bottle and I made sure I found out the pick up times as I think the sample had to be at the testing centre within 2 hours. Keep the sample warm in a sock on your way to the collection centre. This test is the easiest to start with, otherwise they get a bit more invasive for the ladies.

My dh has alway gone to the GP to get his tested you could always say its been 12mths other wise you gynae will charge you to get it tested while most GP's should bulk bill that way when its time for your gynae appointment you will have the test results with you so he can rule that out straight away.
