I just got back from the doctors, and she told me that my uterus is tilted more forward than normal, which means my cervix is facing towards my back. Apart from making my bladder completely uncomfortable, she told me than I may have to get my DH to "aim", so to speak, towards the back of my veejayjay as its not pointing directly downwards like normal. Does anyone else have this and did you have much problems conceiving? On the upside, she said my CM is bountiful and I don't have any problems there LOL
I also have a tilted uterus - no doc ever explained to me what it meant, the only info I've gotten is from here! One of the girls suggested laying on your stomach with your butt in the air after DTD, as opposed to laying on your back with pillows under your bum, as the cervix points the other way.
Apart from that, we've been TTC for 3 1/2 years, so I'm probably not much help!
I've heard conflicting info on this - probably it doesn't really matter at all. You cervix will tilt more to the front than others, but there are plenty of women in the world with a retroverted uterus who have concieved without doing anything special.
I have a tilted uterus but mine tilts backwards in stead of forwards, the first thing the dr said to me when she told me was that no matter what you hear, it wont stop you from getting pg.
she even said that once i do get pg and then have bub, when it reverses back down it might fall back forward.
I havent been able to find much actually factual information on it though, so any information people could get on it would be great to share =)
Hey Irena, I completely misread your post! I was thinking about retroverted uteruses, like Teirae has (me too).
I doubt it matters too much anyway - good luck with TTC
@marcellus, thats cool, its not inverted, its tilts the right way but even more so than normal. It makes sense though - I have an unusually deep curvature on my lower spine than most people, along with a few other congential back problems - so it didn't actually surprise me when the doctor told me that. She did say that it will put a lot of added pressure on my bladder and bowels when I'm pregnant - so hurrah for me!
You know, I would think it might make a difference in early pregnancy, but later on it probably wouldn't because the uterus grows up and out of the pelvis anyway.
Like with retroverted uteruses - at some point they flip to the front in order to expand beyond the pelvis.
But I'm not a doctor of course....
I also have a tilted uterus it tilts backwards and slightly to the side and makes it very hard for doctors to get to my cervix for pap smears ect they always comment on it but i have been pregnant 6 times and have had 4 children all naturally and after each birth my uterus goes back to it's tilted position so i wouldnt worry the little swimmers know were to go.
Im also have a tilted uterus, I only found out last year.. I wasnt told that before having dd so not sure if can change after having a child.. Or maybe it was there before.. My doctor didnt mention it to me, I opend my scann and read the results and then asked him about it. He said not to worry as you can fall pregnant and have a natural child birth.
It took 8 months to conceive dd.. again not sure if it was tilted before.. This is our 9th month of ttc bub#2.. However I had forgotten that I had a tilted uterus until last week. So this month (sorry tmi) I put the butt and legs straight up in the air against the bed.. Kind of like hanging off monkey bars upside down for about 15 mins then I lowered my butt..
Does that putting your legs in the air really make a difference?
I have heard that a lot of women that wear high heals all day everyday have this tilted forwards 'problem' i have also heard that they are told to wear flat shoes while TTC? This is in the airline industry...... No idea if this helps!
A retroverted uterus is a uterus that is tilted backwards instead of forwards. And a anteverted uterus (which according to my OB/Gyn) that most women have, is tipped forward toward the bladder.
My OB/Gyn told me that having a anteverted or retroverted uterus has no effect on fertility and also told me that a tipped uterus (either way) will usually right itself during the 10th to 12th week of pregnancy.
I was told about 3 and 1/2 years ago that I have a retroverted uterus (tilted backwards) which my OB/Gyn has said could have been due to my endometriosis.
I don't think you should worry about it, however perhaps next time you see your doctor perhaps ask him/her to explain it to you for ease of mind.
I tried the pillow under my bum with my legs up in the air for 30 mins after sex and guess it helped/worked as I fell pregnant 2 times (unfortunately the first one ended in m/c).
