TTC Girl - did you try anything and did it work I.e timing etc

    Hi,
I would love to try for a girl. I have read a few books saying that timing is important. For a girl, ttc should happen away from ovulation. I'm wondering if anyone has followed this successfully or is it a waste of time? Can sperm live 3-4 days? I'm so confused as I'd like to get pregnant asap. Thanks

In my experience, yes sperm can live for 4 days! We weren't TTCing but were following the Billings method for natural contraception and I was watching my cycle closely for that reason. I was in total shock when I found myself UTD and even more shocked when I got my girl after 3 boys!

I had an attempt to TTC a girl which resulted in a boy and I know it was the timing. It was impatience on my part, so I'd advise you to take your time with it

Would avoiding 2-3 days before ovulation be enough? I ovulate around day 15 and was thinking of stopping at day 12. I am giving myself a month or two like this and then going right through as I want to be pregnant asap. Very confusing and I can see how it can be easy to be impatient!

    Thanks for replying xox

I was always a believer that DTD before ovulation led to a girl - we DTD on day 9 of my cycle (ovulated on day 14) and got DD1. We DTD on day 9 and day 14 (just in case) and we got a girl.

This time, we DTD on ovulation and... apparently another girl. So totally not what we expected (or what we aimed for).

So my opinion is - its a game of luck really and you get what you're given... even if the outcome isn't *exactly* what you wanted......

I have 3 boys and did absolutely everything I could to get a girl (and I mean EVERYTHING over the course of 18 months)....it wasn't until we gave up trying so hard that I fell pregnant and found out 2 weeks ago that we are expecting a little girl. I agree with Arimeh though, its just a case of chance really. 50/50. However if you are really interested in reading up, there is a fantastic website that was very useful to me and some great people on there going through the same thing. Just google 'in gender'

Best of luck getting your little princess. Its the best feeling in the world.

Kate07 - I did O+12 and still got a boy (love him! :-)). Arimeh, my hubby just wants to go for it but I'm too worried that it's my last chance and just too big a risk to take. I'm going to wait a little longer this time though, so that my cycle gets more regular and I can try properly! Congratulations to all of you pinkies!!

DS1 - Did not sway. DTD daily from CD7-CD15. I o'd on CD14, so who knows which one resulted in DS1? Frequent BD is supposed to favour girls. Obviously not in my case.
DS2 - Swayed heavily. 2.5 day cut off, took supplements, got PH down low which favours girls, went on girl diet.
Baby 3 - Did not sway except that I used sylk as a lube (which is supposed to favour girls) and did not eat potatoes or tomatoes while ttc. DTD around O.

I honestly do NOT believe in swaying, and I wish I never swayed with DS2 because I was so sad when my sway didnt work. I just expected him to be a girl because I swayed. This time, I have no expectations and will be happy with whatever I get.

It doesnt hurt to sway as long as you are prepared for a boy, and who knows you may just get your little girl! I hope you do!

We only had the chance to dtd once and I think it was about 3 or 4 days before O and we are now having a girl so that article may have a point

With my first PG we DTD on the 2 days before ovulation and got a boy, with my second PG, as much as I wanted a girl, we only got a chance to DTD the day before ovulation and we still got a girl. It's definately not very accurate.

I havent tried it myself, but i am proud to say that i AM the product of gender selection via the timing method. My parents had 2 boys and wanted a girl. Mum followed the theory that female sperms last longer but are slow, whilst boy sperms are fast but die faster. The theory is that if you TTC before as far before ovulation as possible you increase the chances of a girl. It worked to conceive me anways
Also, my sister in law conceived by accident a girl in the same method!
