Please recommend a FS in Brisbane for 2nd Opinion Sperm Analysis (SA) for DH
Hi ladies,
Best I introduce myself first. My name is Nicole and we're from Brisbane. My partner and I have been actively TTC'ing for just on a year, alas with no luck. Even still, we're both still holding on to the hope that it is going to happen soon, that maybe it's just taking a little while longer than usual. . . DH has a gorgeous 7 year old daughter from a previous relationship that lives with us full time. She hasn't seen her bio mother in approx 4 1/2 years (personal choice from both sides), so one would say we're TTC #2.
Back to the topic at hand. Recently I had a pelvic ultrasound, and DH had a sperm analysis. According to the ultrasound, everything inside of me seems to be 'excellent' and no cause for concern. There's a lot of follies on both ovarys however I'm still not quiet sure what this means - I find it a little difficult to pick up certain things when it comes to the whole TTC area! There's just so much information, one minute I think I'm grasping something, only to read or get told something completely contradictory on the same issue.
DH's SA results also came back good, with just a few of his swimmers appearing to be a little slow and a count of 75million (can someone confirm if this count is good??). My GP suggested it could (the swimmers being a tad slow) simply be due to the time it took for the SA to reach the lab to be tested, but just to be 110% sure of this thought, I am on the hunt for a recommended FS in Brisbane for another, more precise, SA test.
I have been doing most things the way I know how, but it just seems luck's not on our side at the present time. As I said earlier, I have full faith we will get there, it's just the constant let-downs and depressing AF arrivals that get me so down, month after month.
The amount of money we've spent thus far, just on tests and books, naturopathist just for myself for now along with the liquid herbs(recently went and saw Sharkey's Healing Centre on the GC - acclaimed babymakers featured on A Current Affair) doesn't help either.. I'm not for one second implying that it's not worth it because obviously it is or I for one wouldn't be doing it, it's merely the whole feeling behind knowing we're doing so much and not getting our much desired result. . .
Look forward to receiving any recommendations there may be!
hi Lady_R, sorry to hear your TTC journey has been a bit bumpy, but congrats on getting some tests done
i feel sure it helps to be proactive, and you have more to focus on then stressing ykwim.
i can't recommend a FS but i used to work in a lab before i was a SAHM. it is recogmended that the SA sample be at the main laboratory (where the test is to be performed, not a collection center) no later than an hour after it was collected.
we advised people, especially after already having a suboptimal SA, to either deliver the sample themselves to the main lab (saving time cutting out the collection center), or doing the collection at the lab . your DH might be reluctant, i know mine would be !! so i would try the first one, remember not to chill the sample try and keep it at body temp.
i would always say to get a repeat on a SA the test is very subjective, and it doesn't take much to upset the and they may have just been having an off day.
best of luck, HTH
Thank you for your post Teddy, much appreciated. . .
To our knowledge, the sample should have been at their main lab in the city for sampling at 9:50AM. I was advised he could do it at home that morning, but that I had to get it to our local Sullivan Nicolaides within the required time frame so as their courier could collect it to get it in the city, which I did all correctly..
Seems a 2nd opinion is really the only way to confirm... Does anyone else know / have a recommendation??
sorry didn't mean to suggest it was your fault
your GP is right, logistically getting the samples from a collection center to the lab is a nightmare, when the clock is ticking. and this can cause slow swimmers. it is my understanding its not the FS that does the testing but the lab, so when you find your FS he may suggest a repeat SA to rule this out.
it takes a massive effort to get the sample collected, big shame if the courier gets stuck in peak hour traffic, or something equally silly. sulli and nic's are a good lab (i worked for then when i lived in bris vagas ) and they make every effort to do the right thing.
hope you get some answers. its sooo0 stressfull this TTC. i don't know if its physiological or biological but once you decide you want to be UTD, you want it NOW
my DH and i have been trying for #3 for more than a year, with an along the way.
best of luck
I live in Brisvegas as well. We got an initial SA done, and when the results weren't fantastic, we did a repeat SA (again, got the slip of paper from the GP) and these results were much better! Apparantly SA's can fluctuate quite a lot. My suggestion is to use a GP for a repeat SA rather than seeing a FS, and if the repeat results are low, take the results to a FS for interpretation.
I saw Glenn Sterling at Life Fertility in Brisbane. He was a nice guy. Also, acupuncture has helped quite a few women achieve pregnancy after waiting a year. It worked for me first go after 12 months of trying with no success.
Ooh Teddy hun, don't get me wrong, I never thought that was what you implied for a split moment!! All is good. I know what you meant. I am sorry for your :angel2: - my heart goes out to you.. xxoo :babydust: right back at ya hun. x
OscarOscar, thank you for your post. I never thought of it that way. I assumed one SA done through the GP would / could result in the same results both time. I'm so naive. Might give that a go I think. Thank you. Would you mind recommending the acupuncturist you saw? Cheers x
Leemar, thank you for your post also. At this stage we are wanting to exhaust every option without going there.. (just yet anyway). Nothing against them of course, they work absolute wonders and I think the world of them for what they create, but we'd like to know we've tried every different method before hand. *hoping I didn't catch foot'in'mouth disease there*.....
Thanks for the heads up hun. Is there a particular link to the said meet-up thread ? I'm only new to here and don't really know where start looking for it..!
We are seeing Bob Watson at North West Medical and he is absolutely wonderful. He is quite hard an appointment with, but my GP managed to pull some strings! So if you need my GPs details, then PM me
I also go to the same acupuncturist as Tiggerlinda and OscarOscar - he is really great.
The acupuncturist I see is Beau Mannix, at Positive Balance in Indooroopilly. Tell him that Linda and Candice sent you, he will get a giggle out of that .
Sambo, thank you for the tip / name! NWP is very top of our list of possible hospitals that I'd like to birth at, when I do that is..
My cousin's girlfriend gave birth there and so has her sister and neither have 1 even average (went WAAY above - absolutely impeccable service) word to say about them - everything was above and beyond according to both ladies and it's nice and close to my mum's house which is great too (used to be close to me, but as of this Saturday we'll be living in Buderim)! Have you had much interaction with them thus far other than with Dr Watson?
Hun, I've tried PM'ing you but it keeps giving me an error message saying I don't have enough permission level to do that. Would you mind PM'ing me the details of your GP? & importantly, what is he like with respect to alternative methods, namely naturopathy and your other natural treatments, so to speak? Reason I ask is I've been with my GP for a long time now but 1) he's hardly informative with explanations on results and so forth, 2) he seemed very edgy / unhappy when I mentioned I was seeing a naturopathise - "waste of money ra ra ra" & there's other reasons as well, but I won't bore you with them.
It's just important from here on out that I get a GP that is natural remedy friendly and isn't totally and utterly against it. In saying this, he doens't have to be anal about it, and fully involved in everything to do with nat remedies, but I'd prefer he at least be accomodating and supportive in the said manner...
Much appreciated! x

I haven't had much to do with NW other than seeing Bob Watson.
For some reason, I don't get an option to PM you when I click your name. I also can't leave messages on your public profile.
To avoid having to post his number on the Internet, you can probably find it if you Google "Rosalie Medical Centre". When you call, ask to see Phil Mansfield. He is often really booked up, but hopefully you won't have to wait too long. He is lovely and is very understanding
As it happens, my AC suggested I see Phil for the very reason that he is open to natural therapies!! So that check-box is ticked for you too
Good luck and let me know how it goes
