My DH and I are talking about IVF now as we think the VR has failed (will find out this weekend when DH has his scan, feeling sick with worry). But DH is not very happy about the needle to get to the sperm did your DH have any pain when he had that done?
MelP - thanks for the congrats - we are very happy but I will be driving myself insane until the 12wk mark I told the nurse how I did 7 HPT's before my blood test and she said "oh this is going to be a loonng pregnancy!"
Jotana - our clinic (ivf Australia) only does it using general aneasthetic (sp?), although some clinics do it using local and my DH was pretty keen just to use local. Also, afterwards he was fine, although they did give him a presciption for pain killers.
Although we went through IVF Austalia, after our 3rd attempt (well, 2 ICSI and 1 FET) I had decided we would change to Sydney IVF, as I know they have a higher success rate, although they are also more expensive. Anyway, that was during my two week wait and in the end I got my Next time we might go through Sydney IVF though, just because I like the sound of some of their procedures better. For example, when you do the Egg Pick Up, your partner can be in the room with you and you can have local with sedation I think. I was in a surgery room with about 5 doctors and nurses and had a general aneasthetic - a bit daunting the first time.
Having said that, other clinics will allow for 2 embryo transfers and have a higher rate of twins - a concept that I was really keen on - but changed my mind just before doing IVF
Hi All
DH had his scan yesterday and am happy as his vas is not blocked, Dr Lekich said sometimes it just takes some men longer for their sperm to return so hoping it does soon. We gave a sample while we were there and Dr Lekich could see a few dead ones he showed us too, last night we bought a microscope 400x so that we can keep a eye out for them too.
Does anyone know what the out of pocket expenses are with no private medical?
Hi my docotr reffered me to a specialist who has an ofice in the sunnybank private medical suites, he has years of experience and is very friendly, i just need to save some more money before i go ahead, to save costs he uses a public hospital theatre.
he is about $3500
due to changes in governement initiatives medicare doesn not allocate a number for reversals, and will not consider helping towards these costs, private health funds only pay on items that have a medicare number, so it is not a refund, but given your chances after initial consultation it may be allot cheaper than IVF.[/QUOTE]
