    Very worried and confused.

Hi. I got a very faint positive FRER test at 13/14dpo and now at 17dpo and 3 days late for AF... its negative. I've had no spotting or bleeding but have had quite strong stabbing cramps and waves of nausea and frequent trips to the loo.

I went to the emergency department this morning and did a urine test. It was also negative for pregnancy and they felt my tummy (said it was a bit tender) and drew blood for a bhcg test. And booked me in for an ultrasound on Monday morning as well as a repeat blood test for bhcg levels.

They then sent me home after taking the blood. On the repeat bt form it says ?ectopic...

I'm thinking if I am having an ectopic, why wouldn't they at least wait for the results to come through before releasing me? Does it seem strange to any one else? How will I find out what the results are? I'm so confused and worried.

    Very worried and confused.

When they thought Ianto might be ectopic, I had the run of blood tests and was booked in for an ultrasound the next day*. Since you'd still be very early on if you are still pregnant, and the baby would still be so very tiny, they can afford to make you wait a couple of days without worry. On their side, at least, I'm sure you're very worried yourself

*Just on a side note, if forgotten it was the next day they did the ultrasound. I've been remembering it as the same night, but it wasn't. Hmm. Funny what things pop back into memory...

Don't quote me, but my understanding is that they take a 'wait and see' approach to early suspected ectopic pregnancies because in some cases in the early stages they can resolve themselves and at this stage they would be highly unlikely to see anything in your tubes or elsewhere, probably just a reaction in your lining. I think statistically most ectopics rupture between 7-12? weeks so whilst it's bloody awful to have to wait they take a more conservative approach and see what your hcg is doing etc before taking any more invasive action.

I think because even with ectopic pregnancy you see a level of BHCG even if its very low. Maybebaby is right you don't see ectopics rupture until late in the 5th week at the very earliest and usually not until 7-8plus week so I guess they don't see it as a high risk to send you home. When do you get your results?

I'm bleeding now. Had an ultrasound. And did more bloods got a call from ED to come in and discuss results... I was pregnant but not any more. B Hcg did a dive. They told me to expect bleeding and cramping. Nothing was visible on u/s to believe it was ectopic, got the all clear there. Just put it down to a chem preg/early mc.
