    Vitex question?

    Hi,

We are currently TTC#2 and have been for the past 8 cycles, but no luck. I'm currently taking Blackmores Conceive Well Gold and wanting to start taking Vitex to try lenghten my LP, but was wondering whether it's ok to take Vitex (Blackmores brand) ontop of the Blackmores Conceive Well Gold?

    Thank you.

    Thanks girls.

Just another question - how do you take the Vitex during your cycle? Do you take it every day of your cycle, do you take it from start of AF til ovulation or from ovulation to AF or....?

Also, how did you find it? Did it change anything for you? Make your LP longer? Your cycle longer/shorter? AF lighter/heavier?

    Thanks

Pretz ~ it is like you are reading my mind!

I too have just started blackmores conceive well gold and vitex (660mg x 1 tab daily).
I posted a thread about a week ago, asking about pre conception vitamins for men and women.
DH is taking menevit. I was taking Swisse pregnancy for approx 8mths, I did become pregnant, how it was a blighted ovum. I had a d&c three weeks ago, started new vitamins approx 2 weeks ago.
My cycles pre 'bubble' was around 33 days. I started the vitex to try to shorten them. I always knew when I was ovulating anyway, but I noticed after a few days on the vitex, I had better CM.

I was going to post tonight, the same thing you asked about when to stop the vitex...
Good thing I checked your post!!

I have never taken it but I have read lots about it and apparently you take it for the follicular phase only (first two weeks) and stop at ovulation because it can cause miscarriage if stopped when pregnant.

All it ever did for me was make me crazy emotional. I just cried and cried over ridiculous things when i was on it. It made my LP ridiculously long too, like 20 days long, up from 12 or 13.

Later, I took Maca Root Powder capsules instead. I have a 2 from 2 success rate with taking these, even though second time round was a very low dose due to me still brestfeeding. I recommend it over vitex any day.

Either way, I hope to see a PA from you soon

    Vitex question?

Update - so after a d&c on 17th Feb I started Blackmores conceive well gold and vitex for 14 days (starting last day of AF)

2 cycles later and now onto 3rd packet of BCWG, so far only one cycle with felt ovulation - march, but due to that being first cycle after m/c, we weren't TTC then.

But this month AF came 21 March, I took vitex for 14 days from last AF day and stopped on prev and estimated o days, along with BCWG for full month.
Lots of BDing every second day, but I don't think I o'd this month.

I think the vitex has stopped or delayed ovulation. I normally can feel the day (temp) side (sharp twinge on whichever side) and approx time (usually afternoon)

    Has anyone else had this??

So I will be not taking Vitex next cycle.

Bummed as I was praying for a NYE bubs!

it actually stuffed around quite a lot with my cycle too. I also got severe PMS whilst on it!

I didn't have good results with vitex (chaste tree) either. My cycles we're long and I was crazy hormonal.
I tried the maca as well, which wasn't bad but what I found worked for me was kelp tablets (certified organic) and also acupuncture. For me the kelp worked within 2 months, acupuncture was for 5 months.

I'd give the kelp a shot as it balances hormones either way

    Vitex question?

It's weird because my cycles are long ish 33 days, I thought vitex especially after d&c, might help them become shorter, but I realise the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it!!

I am a 'lucky' one on that I have light AF's generally, with minimal pms, Vitex didn't change that but I'm 100% sure this month it has prolonged my luteal phase and suspended ovulation. I will post more after my AF due date.

Sorry for long posts, but I do find it very interesting!!

Pretz - I'm guessing it worked for you, saw you have a little bun in the oven!! Congrats!!

So AF showed up right on time!
But I will not take vitex this cycle, just to humor myself now really.

I found that vitex suspended/delayed ovulation for me. Give yourself a couple cycles without and see how you go.

Just thinking, you mentioned that you wanted to reduce your cycle length. 33 isn't an 'abnormal' length but do you know how long your leutal phase is? Ie how many days from o to period? That's the length that's important. Do you chart at all?

I just know my cycles were nuts but had a consistent leutal phase, the vitex was mucking up the total cycle length though, and delaying o.

    Vitex question?

    Hi little_O,
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply! : )

"Just thinking, you mentioned that you wanted to reduce your cycle length. 33 isn't an 'abnormal' length but do you know how long your leutal phase is?"
I wanted to see if I could get it back to 28-30 days in hope that it would help my luteal phase. Prior to going on the pill a few years ago, my cycles were 29 days right on. Since coming off pill, going through 2x CIN3 colposcopies, my cycles got longer and lighter and less days. I guess it just concerned me, to have it longer than normal. Oddly, the month I did fall pregnant was a random cycle of 27 days. That hadn't happened in about a year!

"Ie how many days from o to period?" most of the time it has been 14-19 days.

"That's the length that's important. Do you chart at all?" I don't take my temp, but I do keep an app/diary of cycle, symptoms etc.

I just know this month I don't think I ovulated. I'm pretty sure it was the vitex, so I won't take this month, and see how I go.

    Thanks again

I ended up charting on fertilityfriend.com (it's free) and that helped pin point ovulation exactly for me. It at least helps increase your chances of getting it right

I have never been real regular but after the pill my body was way off. I do recommend taking the kelp tablets, as they help naturally regulate your pituitary gland which is responsible for all hormone regulation. Worth a shot anyways
