As the title says Im going to my first gyno appt on Thursday.. I dont know what to expect, what to ask gosh Im nervous lol
I basically wanted to see him because of my irregular periods and we have been trying for over a year now. What are some good questions I should ask? Should I expect to have to um spread my legs so to speak lol Should I take my last 2 ultrasounds? lol I dont know! Any help would be great!![]()
Hope it all goes well for you. Not sure about q's etc though.

take any relevant info you have - so previous u/s, timing of periods etc. you may have to have an exam but it's more likely you'll get handed a pathology form and sent on your way for lots of BT's. really depends on what your GP has done and forward to gyne. i would go in expecting to have an exam and walk out relieved if you don't!
good luck
BG
Yep, take everything with you. You probably won't have to spread 'em, but I'd prepare myself, just in case like BG says.
Good luck!
I am no help in the way of what to ask, just wanted to pop in and wish you luck, I hope you get the answers you are looking for.
I ended up having an internal ultrasound on my first gynae visit so you are best to be prepared for the worst and hope it doesn't happen!
That first visit - a nerve racking but positive step!
My main recommendation before Thursday would be to start a reproductive health folder for yourself (A4 with plastic sleeves or the like).
*Put copies of any relevant ultrasounds and tests in it.
*Write out on a piece of paper everything you can think of about your menstrual history - start date, any issues you've had on and off (pain during ovulation or AF, missed periods etc), and dates/timing of periods, conceptions/m/c, etc,
* On another piece of paper write out main points from your health history. Note any major illnesses or operations.
* On a third piece of paper, write out main points from your family health record (and DP's). This info may take a while to gather but could start with a phone call to your parents. Find out in particular about family history of high BP, heart disease, thyroid issues, diabetes, and reproductive issues (including m/carriages). You may be amazed at what you dig up once you start asking questions.
* Take this folder with you to all appointments and make sure it's kept up to date.
On an ongoing basis, be fanatical about obtaining photocopies of every single test you ever have. I would also suggest you ask for a copy of the referral letter to any specialist (or make a photocopy if they give it to you). You will have to ask the Doc (or their secretary) for a copy of any results/letters, each time you visit, or if you forget ring or email them and they'll pop it in the post. From someone who has seen lots of specialists and GPs about my issues, I can assure you that YOU are the best person to keep an overall eye on your health! In particular, blood test results. Drs love sending you for blood tests, but they tend to look at the result of that test only to see if it's within the reference range. After a couple of years of this I looked back over tests and jotted the results down, and I could see that with certain measures although I was below the threshold, there had been a steady increase over time. I am so glad to know this!
Anyway all the best at your appointment. In terms of whether you'll need an examination, if you haven't had a pap smear in the past year it would be a great idea to get one and also a breast check. Make the most of your visit.
It's a positive step to start investigations. I wish you all the best xo
Thanks for all your replies!!
My GP photocopied my recent bloods he did. FBC, Thyroid, glucose, iron, testosterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, oestrogen, progesterone.
My testosterone was high but everything else was great. he didnt think I O'd that cycle.
I am so nervous, I just want something to come from it you know :/
Good luck for tomorrow!!! I hope you get all the answers you need and don't be afraid to ask absolutely anything thats what you are paying them for!! I found with my first gynaeo I was too shy and would tell her whats been happening then wait for her reply and leave it at that so if your unsure remember to ask![]()
GL hun, let us know how you go

the appt went good. I was so nervous. lol
From my previous BT he recon'd Im not ovulating especially with my very irregular cycles. He saw my previous u/s and said I have lots of eggs.
So he put me on Provera 10mg to bring on my period and prescribed clomid!!!
I was so excited lol
I mentioned my weight (he didnt mention it) he said Im not that big and it didnt make a difference. That made me feel good.
He said he will make me o and get me pg hehehehhe im so happy.
He also sent me for bloods and after that I sat in the car and sobbed lol Called a couple of people and sobbed lol So in all im excited to start my provera tomorrow
Thanks so much everyone for your support. It means so much to me
Oh, I am so happy for youyou are making me all teary.

to your gyno, what a great guy.
yay for progress! thats fantastic that you've been taken seriously and jumping the gun to get started. hoping the clomid works for you
just a little warning from someone that's BTDT - it's a REALLY good idea to advise your partner that you may become a little, ummm, moody on these meds - they can make you VERY PMS-ish! even for someone like me that doesn't get PMS lol
