When I was preg with DD I did 3 HPT (crystal clear) all came back a very very light line, I was convinced I was preg but DP thought that the line was too faint, so I went to the Dr and asked to have a preg test because I thought I was preg, where he poked me in the head with his pointed finger and said 'I don't think so' (to being preg that is) he then did a 'wee' test and it was a BFN, I came home very upset because I was sure I was preg, 3 days later on my DP's 30th B'day I did another HPT (not sure what brand, but not crystal clear) and it was clearly a BFP, I was 7 weeks preg it turns out.
My DP and I are now TTC #2 and I did a HPT a few days ago crystal clear and it was a very faint positive, then the second in the pack was the same. I wasn't convinced this time so bought a 'confirm' HPT and it was a BFN.
I do not want to waste my money on HPT but I do not want to be constantly going to my Dr for a test either (I have a new Dr by the way) so I would like to use a highly recommended brand of HPT?
I was going to test every month as AF has not returned since DD was born, does this seem reasonable?
I don't like crystal clear. I got a false + once, and this pregnancy I did a test at 8 weeks (at 7 weeks my HCG was 75000) and it was still faint. Very annoying!
I loved the pregnosis tests, with the cute flotation rings. It literally floats the stick in a cup of pee, ROFL! But the line was nice and dark, and the test is fairly sensitive too.
I can understand you wanting to test each month under your circumstances. I'm on a 28 day active tablet minipill which may stop me from getting AF so I've started temping as I'm paranoid I'll be pregnant and not know that I am as my pregnancy symptoms were mild. If it's working for you keep doing it.
My fave HPT's are the lullaby conception ones that you buy online. I got the ones that you can use early and you wee on them (not the cup type ones). They are very cheap so are great for anyone who could be testing a lot. I never got a false positive on them - they were positive for the two pregnancies I had while using them and negative on the non pregnant cycles. I believe they are very reliable and can highly recommend them. They only take a few days to get them to you.
My favourite was First Reponse ... I bought a three pack, tested 10DPO and got a BFP (faint, but a line is a line!). They are very sensitive. remember when you buy a HPT to test early one might be positive and one might be negative depending on the strength of the test.
I love Lullaby Conceptions 10mui, it gives you a reliable result from 7DPO (I didnt test until 10DPO though to be on the safe side) and even better, they are only about $3 each from the website so you can afford to be a POAS addict !!!
The Clear Blue looks great, it looks expensive though... maybe I will get one for a special occasio, like when I know for sure that it is going to say 'pregnant'.
I just googled the lullaby tests, I can only see the 20miu, and cup test only, they are on special though 10 strips for $10.95 and 10 cups for $4.95 - thats only $1.59 per test, not bad!
I have found a pharmacy nearby that stocks lullaby though, I might go for a drive
As far as my least favourite goes it has to be Crystal Clear. I hate the blue lines. The dye is so smudgy that it's difficult to get a clear look at whether there may be a faint second line or not. I think the product name is ironic!
I like Confirm cos they are very clear and easy to read.
Clearblue digital are great in that they either say 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' which prevents you from spending an hour holding the test up to the light searching for a faint second line (which I do to the point where if you handed me a blank piece of photocopying paper I would start seeing faint lines on it). But they are expensive.
But my favourite is the Pregnow ones. I bought 50 tests for $35 online. They are super sensitive detecting 10mIU/ml. They are no frills, basic stips with no plastic stick part but they are clear and cheap. Hopefully I won't have to use all 50 before I get a BFP though!
I hate the Pregnosis tests they are terrible. I got a false BFP on it the month after my early m/c so it was something i didn't need!! they were difficult to use too. annoying.
I love the First Response HPT's and the Discover One Hpt's.... you pay more for them but they are better quality and no mistaking that 2nd line!
I have never tried Digital HPT's but i'd say they would be pretty good..... I might try one next time.
