    Question Why?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but why do you have to wait 2 weeks before testing if you are pregnant? I thought you could test like 2 days after to check because isn't that what it says on the pregnancy test?
    Sorry for my ignorance!

because it can take 2 weeks for ur HCG levels to be high enough so they show up on a pregnancy test. Meaning u could test in 2 days and it will say negative but if u test in 14 days it might say positive. See what i mean? tho...if u think ur pregnant u can go to ur GP and get them to organise a blood test.

The tests pick up the pregnancy hormone hCG. If you are pregnant it starts off as a very smal trace of it then starts to increse. The pregnacy tests can pick up the hormone at a certain level, (depending on test they all vary abit.) Some claim they can pick it up as early as 5-7 days before your next period is due but doing one too early can give you a negative if there isn't enuff hormone there yet to pick it up.
Most tests will tell you the best time to test is when a period is missed.

Do you mean 2 days after Ovulation or 2 after fertilisation? I don't think any test could be that sensitive!

A few reasons come to mind why there is a 2 week wait. One is that the level of hormone secreted by the fertilised egg need to get up to a detectable level.
It is believed that it can take up to 5 days for the fertilised egg to implant and in the meantime things don't always work out. Genetic problem can stop it from developing or it may not implant and the pregnancy doesn't continue.
I imagine that it would be very heartbreaking if you knew about every unsuccessful fertilisation going on. My Dr told me it's only about 1 in 3 that implants!

It's nice to know ASAP and I have tested at 12 DPO and got a BFP. At least by 2 weeks or longer the hormone would have gotten to a high enough level to give a definite result and no doubts if you are PG or not!

I thought so (about the hCg i mean) but I could swear I read it on one of the pregnancy tests I had bought earlier?? I think they meant 2 days after fertilisation but who knows?
Could you possibly feel any symptoms in 2 weeks then? I'm just curious as I have a feeling I might be preggers but can't be sure? lol
I have been going to the bathroom much more than usual, eating more than usual and feeling more gassier as well haha! sometimes I get the feeling of nausea as well...and this is very randomly, but it's not in the morning as much as it is at night!!
but it could all be in my head you know?

What the others have said is correct. You wont test positive on a HPT until your HCG level is at a level that can be detected by the test. Same with a BT at the doctors. You could still be pregnant but it won't show until just before your period is due or sometimes after it's due. The HCG level starts rising when implantation occurs and this ordinarily happens from about 6DPO onwards in most cases and then it takes a few more days to reach a level high enough to test positive.

I've had positive HPT's as early as 10 days past O, so around 3 days before my AF was due. I've never seen a HPT that says you can test as early as you have suggested and I've used a number of different brands, including ultra sensitive ones.

it's very possible to feel things early - but a lot of what you may be feeling can also be attributed to the progesterone you produce during your luteal phase - and being that you're ttc, you may find yourself more aware of what you're feeling, even though you feel the same every month! a HPT can't show up 2 days after ovulation or fertilisation. an embryo doesn't implant in the lining of your uterus until it becomes a blastocyte at around 6 days after ovulation - and can be up to day 12 in extreme cases. you will not get a reading on a HPT until at least a few days after this. even if a fertilised egg is present in your uterus, you will not have a HCG reading as there is no interaction between your body and the embie until implantation occurs (this happens in IVF in that a fertilised embie is placed in your uterus 2-6 days after fertilisation - you still have no hcg reading until implantation occurs though)

having had fertilised day 3 embryo's put back, and getting clear BFN's even up to 16dpo, i can promise that it won't show on HPT until implantation happens - it's not related to ovulation or fertilisation! it won't show up even on a blood test until well after implantation - and even with a BT if you're levels are low, the doctor won't confirm a pregnancy - they will retest to ensure the hcg levels are climbing as low hcg levels can be a sign of a chemical pg or of testing too early...

in our case for my last two pg's, i tested at 12dpo and got a positive on a sensitive test - unfortunately for us, both ended in early m/c (but that's to do with a whole different set of problems!!). the earliest i've seen a sticky BFP on BB was 9dpo, most are 12dpo or later. for some people, they don't get a positive pee stick for quite some time after their period would have been due...

    good luck

ETA - satya, i've seen the ones that say you can test as much as five days before AF is due - i think First Response are one of the brands that uses that as their sales pitch. in all honesty i think it's a ploy to convince people to buy their product! it's highly unlikely you'd get a true result that early but when you want to be pg (or really dont want to be!) you'll test as early as possible every time!

BG's absolutely right on all things

The only thing I have to add is I bought a Crystal Clear test, which says you can test up to 5 days before your "missed period", but then on the leaflet inside, the % of women who actually get an accurate reading 5 days before AF is only like 40%. How about that - if you test 5 days before due, you've only got a 2 in 5 chance that the result will be accurate. Each day you wait increases the accuracy, up to around 95% I think on the day AF is due and 99% the day after it is due.

All I can say is read the fine print in the instruction leaflet to avoid possibly unnecessary heartache!!!!!!!
