The risotto could easily be bland, like any risotto. I had a demo yesterday, she added some dried, previously chopped (in tmx) mushrooms as well. Added some body an flavor. Was fantastic. I was home late, kids were hungry, i whipped up the apricot chicken, a risotto style, it was so quick and everyone loved it. Honestly it was as easy and quick as toasted sandwiches I reckon!
It's a convenience thing for me. I can more easily make things. Sure I can make a custard on the stove top, but I need to measure it weigh everything, slowly add the liquid and stir constantly so it's not lumpy. So much easier in the TMX, I weigh it all in and press go. I had the dishes done by the time dessert was ready and all without additives and preservatives. :-)
Can you tell I'm in love!
JM you sound like a consultant
Glad you're loving it
Woohoo! Welcome JM!
Hi Everyone!
i start posting in here and then forget to come back
ive had my thermo since december and i love it more and more everyday!
its looking like it will be getting a whole new level of working out as DH is being tested for a lot of gut issues, gluten being the main issue we think and wheat being a possiblity as well.
so if anyone has some good recipes please share them so i can make things for DH
Crumpet check out quirky cooking!!
Thanks olive will do!
i made spag bol sauce tonight and some sorbet. I didn't know what to do with myself while my thermo (needs a name) was doing all the work. So i cleaned up. unheard of. What's everyone else cooking?
Thinking about what should i cook for a dinner party? probably 8 peeps..... hmmmmmmm
I recently tried making a lemon meringue roulade. Bit of a fail on the meringue. Still edible but I couldnt get stiff peaks, they were soft. I had planned to do the meringue in the Kenwood, but I ran out of time. I havent used it ages. Still, the TMX was brilliant for making the lemon curd and then cream.
Otherwise we use TMX to steam vegies all the time. We've worked out timing for things a bit better. I even use it to steam sausages & vegies when I have the CBFs and dont have the energy to fry the sausie :) Just pop in the Varoma and walk away.
For a dinner party, you could try Indian or Thai curry with rice. Or salmon steaks with vegies and a sauce. Just practice using the Varoma beforehand.
I need to start meal planning properly. I'm thinking of a TMX challenge - how many meals can I make in TMX in a week, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
As per a request from rouge...
Tonight I cooked Tenina's prawn and corn gumbo....delish!!
Olive - that sounds yum!!
L&B - I like the challenge idea! I get slack sometimes and should actually use it more
g'day junglemum, sounds like you're loving your thermie!
crumpet - how is your DH's testing going? there's some GF recipes on the forum, and there's also a GF recipe book too if you need to stick with the diet. I find I can get by with a lot of substituting with normal recipes too.
I made a potato & spinach soup the other day, was yum, so quick & easy. Am going to try sweet potato & spinach soup tomorrow. Mmm soup weather. Have also been frothing lots of milk for lattes lol. Expensive milk frother. Bwahahaha.
I minced for the first time and LOVED it :)
I made the Lamb & Fetta Rissoles from the Official Community Recipes. Amazing. Made my own ranch to go with, a lovely salad and PW's Crash Hot Potatoes.
Amazing!
I love mincing too rouge!!
Will be making mince twice this week, once for spag Bol and the other for chow mien
I made the Chicken in Yoghurt from the Indian cookbook the other night. We actually slow cooked it in the cast iron oven dish but everything else was done in TMX. So yummy and ridiculously easy.
I also made Palak Paneer. I made the palak from milk as per the TMX recipe which was easy. I ended up with a lot more whey than I expected - nearly 2 litres. Which makes sense given I used 2lt of milk, but I wasn't sure how much cheese you actually end up with.
I then tried to convert a recipe from an Indian cookbook to the TMX for the palak paneer. I steamed the spinach in the Varoma, then mixed everything in the TMX. It ended up a bit bland, but I didn't put chillis or garlic in it. I also didn't grind the cardamom at the beginning so it was just whole seeds. It was ok but not as good as in a restaurant.
We took it them friends who made other curries in their TMX :) followed by magic bean chocolate cake with chocolate ganache.
It's funny. Those friends said they'd never use it, it was too expensive, but came to a demo anyway. Bought it that day and now say it's changed their life.
I'm also researching making dog food in it. Doggie has itchy skin which I think is from additives. We use additive and preservative free dry food but I think the treats may have them. I figure I can easily make liver treats in the TMX and oven. If only we had a dehydrator too.....
I need you girls to post more. I love hearing about all the things you make. It keeps me inspired ;) And my mojo ebbs and flows as of late.
I love indian food. They sound great!
Have you experimented with dehydrating in the oven at low temps? I'm so tempted to start playing as there are so many things I want to make atm.
Not yet, but a friend makes liver treats for her dogs that way so I figure I'll give it a try.
You could come over and show me how to make comfit duck. I'd have to find some duck first though :)
or just come over
I feel like procrastibaking :) I'm in the mood for Snickerdoodles but give me some other ideas.
lol rouge...i have the indian cookbook if you want to have a look.
currently making spag bol...
Maybe we need a BB Thermomix FB group so we can share photos too. I love the inspiration! :-)
L&B- i made meringue in it and like you the stiff peaks were not so stiff, so i transferred into my kitchen aid and gave it a good whip. Worked ok. But i don't think Tx is up to it! I made butter chicken last night. oh and i lurve snicker doodles! mmmmmmmm
I made the kids pancakes this morning. Not a lump to be seen. :D
I wish we had beetroot and apples here, i want that salad!
I still have to make snicker doodles. I keep forgetting about them!
Well I converted a triple-choc recipe to mix in the thermie, and used egg-replacer. Big flop. Oily mess. So I beat up 3 eggs, threw it all back in, mixed it for a while. Then a bit more. Then baked it again. And it looks ok!
Then I threw a cup of milk in and made myself a hot choc with the dregs of the mix. OMG yum. Hmm, might have to go for a run tomorrow!
Wow belfie that's awesome!
You can post pics as urls now jungle mum. There's a thread about it in msgs from bb.
I am going to make a cake tomorrow for lu's birthday. Not sure what kind yet.
I reckon she'd like some alcohol infused chocolate cake if she was sharing it with you! Happy birthday lovely lulu. Xx
Yeah I just like how easily I can add pics to fb with one click on my phone. Lazy.
Belfie- nice save on the cake!
What to cook tonight. Hmmmm
Have people seen the deal for June? Current owners can get a 2nd bowl & blade set for $195. Just trying to organise a time now.
I purchased a second bowl when I got mine just in case!! :-)
I only need one. Or there'd be more washing up. And that's what I love about it as its so easy to clean. So there's no excuse for mess. I think if we had two DH would kill me coz I'd get lazy!
Making a sponge cake today with lemon curd custard filling and boysenberry Swiss meringue buttercream. Doing most of it in the KA but already done the custard. I find though with anything that's cooked and needs flour I use cornflour as it just doesn't cook out that raw flour taste. Wonder if I could make wheat cornflour out of plain flour. Shall google.
I just made the Carrot and Coriander soup from the EDC... I don't generally like coriander, but this soup was really yummy! I'm now about to make a silverbeet and feta pie (recipe I found online), all ready for tea tonight.
You girls are making my mouth water with all these yummy sweets!
Coincidentally, I 've just been looking at the 'Light as Air' sponge cake on the recipe community. It's GF too.
That filling sounds divine. Recipes please :)
Good planning JM. Do the other expats have TMX envy?
I want a second bowl for days I'm making curry or something milky which burns the bottom which I've done a few times recently.
My DH is waiting on a fairly decent lump sum back pay from his work and told me he will buy me a TMX when it comes through. I really need to get a demo but thought I'd ask here first. Is it do-able for feeding 8 people? 5 of which are teens/adults?
This post was brought to you by Lisa's iPhone. Keeping Lisa sane since 2011.
Absolutely! I saw a blog post on a family of 10 that use it daily. Thermoservers are life savours when you want to do multiple things.
Awesome! Thanks Rouge. I can not wait for this payment to come through now :)
When I bought mine, we heard the story of a large family who used one. She just used to put everything through twice and put it in the thermoserver to keep the first batch warm.
Second bowl & blade huh? I can't imagine I'd use that really - not when I can just spend a minute washing it. I must admit, I tend to only do one thing per meal though - whereas I know some folks who entertain more than us, making dips, then dinner, then dessert etc. I guess it would come in handy then.
Chorizo & capsicum risotto tonight. Love that one. And I want to try Quirky Jo's spelt scones tomorrow (I'm on spelt now instead of wheat-free - woo hoo, so I can experiment with yummy spelt dishes). Can't wait :)
Belfie make her chicken sausage rolls (albeit altered to suit you) they are awesome ans use spelt
do you think it would work without the egg to bind? (pls say yes! I guess I could try the chia seed sub...)
You coud try the chia seed sub. But I'm not sure you'd need the egg, it's quiet a wet mixture
So Rogue ( ;) ) are you telling me corn flour isn't flour made from corn but more to do with how it is milled??? I always use it when a recipe calls for plain flour for thickening etc. The cake sounds sensational. Bet it was. X
Tonight I had more dinner guests. We had a BBQ. In the Tx I made the broccoli salad, a herb mayo for a potato salad, and rice pudding with bananas and maple syrup. Yum.
A few expats with Tx envy LB!
You can have traditional corn flour and wheaten corn flour. Googled and it's a no go. Apparently to get it that fine they ferment grains then dry them out then mill them.
Cake was ok. Tasted better nuked. I have decided I'm not a fan of sponge. But the custard and butter cream were amazing :)
Today I'm making:
Veggie stock
Caramalised garlic paste
Chicken and veggie sausage rolls
Stuffed and steamed chicken rolls (dinner)
Tomorrow I'll make cheese and bacon scrolls and homemade pizza for tea
Oh and basil pesto!
Very successful cooking day!
I have pesto and caramalised garlic left over tomorrow nights pizza :D
Oh max how I looove you
Olive - I made the chicken sausage rolls tonight... HUGE hit with everyone including both fussy kids! I did use chia seed gel (feeling paranoid) and flavoring was chicken stock paste, some KFC spice, paprika and a bit of soy (no onion or garlic). Tasted awesome! Texture was great!
