It's a fabulous machine.
I made a half recipe of rice pudding last night. I used honey instead of sugar and added coconut & cranberries. So yum.
I'll be making the chicken stock powder today. The ingedients have been dehydrating for days. Next time,I'd dry them in the oven.
i ended up making the Swedish meatballs ages ago. They were so yum. I must make them again.
DH has just given me the green light for a thermomix, so excited, just been reading hat everyone gas been making and I am drooling!!

I'm here I'm here I'm here!!!! My beautiful, amazing, gorgeous, generous, soppy hubby bought me a thermomix for Christmas!!!!! I'm so excited. Can't wait to get time to play with him properly - once I've stopped making cubby houses and releasing barbie dolls and my little ponies from their prisons of plastic and cable ties of course. For the moment though, I have to try to find I think L&B's recipe for ice magic in the TMX - I think me telling him it could make this is what tipped DH over the edge to buy it ;-)

Here's the Quirky Cooking recipe for Ice Magic:
To make 'Ice Magic' chocolate topping, melt 100g dark dairy free chocolate (chopped) and 50g coconut oil in the Thermomix for 3-5 mins on 50 degrees, speed 2, until smooth.
Store in a jar in the pantry.

here's another one:
Salted Ice Magic
200g chocolate
100g coconut oil (you can use butter if you prefer)
Large pinch of salt (not essential but seriously takes it to a whole new level)
Melt chocolate and oil together however you like…in the Thermie for 2 mins on 50 degrees, in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove top)
Add pinch of salt and mix well.
I made a heap of stuff for Christmas in the thermie.
chocolate Cointreu sauce
Orange custard
GF profiteroles
Cornbread
Creme Anglaise
coleslaw
lamb burgers
Berry sauce
Ricotta sauce
And we steamed the veggies in the Varoma :)

Thought id better get in on this thread since i got a thermie a few wks ago. Any tips on good cookbooks to buy ladies? Were a very plain meat n veg type household... My mash is always puree not mash what could i be doing wrong?
I mostly use online blogs for recipes. The Indian cookbook is great. I refer to the EDC for how to do things, but rarely use my other cookbooks. I should, especially for all in one meals. Have you had a Varoma demo? That helped me become a lot more confident.

Does everybody mill their own flours with the TMX? Where do you buy the grain/nuts from cos I imagine buying almonds in bulk from woolworths is still going to cost me a fortune!
I made pancake batter this morning and last night I made the fluffy dream. Stupidly gave a spoonful to Miss A without even thinking so she got an enormous reaction I'm assuming to the raw egg :-(
I use chia seed gel to replace the egg white in fruity dream
Never heard of that Olive. Is that a health food shop purchase?
Nope just buy chia seeds, the recipe is usually on the back, otherwise 1 tsp chia to 9 tsp water, let it sit for 10 mins then stir, use maybe a third to half of mixture instead of egg white

I made the buttermilk bread recipe this morning from the EDC book and it was really doughy. It didn't say to put it in a loaf tin so I didn't - made two loaves, shaped them and put them on a baking tray. They ended up spreading out to cover almost the entire tray and each loaf was maybe 8cm high. In fairness, I did have to put them in the oven to do their second resting period and then pre-set the oven to start cooking them at what I guestimated to be enough time to allow them to double in size. So, they were in a cold oven that had to warm up with them in it, although my oven would have hit temperature within 3 minutes at the most. It then turned itself off after cooking time and the loaves then sat in a warm oven for maybe 5 minutes until I got home.
So, after all that, any idea what has caused the loaves to be doughy, or is that just the way this recipe is?
I have made that recipe into rolls and they turned out great. Bread can be hit and miss this time of year due to the weather. I would give it another go and see if you like it.
I made Cobb loaf mix yesterday and the leek mix for my leek and Brie tarts for New Years. Everyone loved it.
I'm making profiteroles right now. Will fill with vanilla creme patisserie and top with salted chocolate ganache. For dinner we're cheating. I lifted out the last batch of "Xmas leftovers pie filling" and some Pâté Brissee I had made last week.
I'm so tired today I could sleep for a week.

Just popping in here, waiting on delivery. I'm feeling very excited, have been and stocked up on all the things I need from the recipes I've searched (almonds, cacoa powder, chickpeas etc) and really keen on making sure that I use my thermie to make healthier, quicker and easier meals. :)

I have a question ladies - when a recipe says to cook something at say 100 for 5 minutes, do you wait to start the time until the temperature actually gets to 100, or have you found that the the warm up time is factored into the recipe?

The only time I wait is when steaming potatoes. I tend to use kettle water. I also find boiling eggs works better with water already hot. The yolks are fluffier.
yeah, that would help. Didn't think of it. I made risotto tonight and while nice, the rice still had just a bit too much bite to it.
So Miss A has been in a co-operative mood today so I've had a great time playing with "Jack". Have made cinnamon scrolls (thanks Cheshire - even my kids like them!), salted caramel icecream, some pureed fruit and vegies for bubs, some peri peri sauce and some peanut butter. Oh, and a milkshake for Miss E, which to be honest feels like a whole lot more work than using the milkshake maker. Heading off with a very long shopping list in a couple of hours so I can have a really good play over the weekend with some dips, sides etc. Going to try yoghurt again too and add in some extras so that hopefully it gets eaten as yoghurt, rather than me searching for something to use it in. Didn't go to waste though - yummy lemon yoghurt cake. Mmmmm
I love my thermomix simply because I can whizz my pre-frozen smoothies and have it clean again, and be out the door in about ninety seconds.
I have never once in my life thought of pre-frozen smoothies - I love that idea!! How to you store them in the freezer? Definitely going to give that a go!:
Freeze in ice-cube trays. I then put in zip lock bags and reuse the bags etc.:
you would need to add milk or water to thin it a bit so reduce what you might normally add.
I generally add 200ml of water to each smoothie, both more if i am ready to drink straight away (as i use a travel mug and thick doesn't come out of it!)
When making yoghurt where do you buy the pot set stuff they refer to? Also I can not find safflower oil would I only find this in a health food store?
Thermomix lovers, I need your help! I've been to two demos and am fairly convinced I want one. But DH is unconvinced. He needs convincing. So help me out...

I promised DH I'd save money I. The long run in our grocery sop, and I do, I am spending about $40 less per fortnight. So it will pay for itself in about 18 months

I use mine daily. It self cleans. I have adapted all our fav recipes and frankly it's my third child. Totally changed my kitchen goddessness from great to freaking awesome!!!
Did he attend the demo OP? I was having trouble convincing DH....and then he saw it in action.

I've only had mine since Christmas and I use it daily - smoothies, some puree stuff for DD3, pancake batter, prep of stuff for dinner if I'm not actually using it to COOK the dinner. I've done quite a few meals in him already - brilliant because its pretty quick, healthy food and there is seriously minimal washing up to do.
I make all my own bread now, sweet and savoury scrolls for the kids' lunchboxes, healthier slices, biscuits, cakes etc. I make yoghurt, all my own sauces - mayonnaise, pesto, peri peri, satay etc- peanut butter, lemon butter. Lots of smoothy/slushy sort of drinks for the kids which is great for upping their veggie and fruit intake, icecream by the gallon. I've stopped buying 1,000 different sorts of flours and sugars and now my pantry is stocked with lots of nuts, seeds and grains that I use so its always lovely and fresh and I'm not wasting so much.
TBH I think I never really did convince my DH - he's just a gorgeous softy and he loves doing things that make me happy (yep, bring out the buckets and sappy music), but now that I've had him for a couple of months he's really seeing the benefit. The ice cream and ice magic I've made certainly helps too ;-)
I haven't had any problems with it at all, and I'm finding it so much easier to get things done while still managing to deal with two lots of girls' homework and a tiny girl making the usual demands. Its really easy to clean, really easy to use (I've only had a couple of not so flash results and no disasters) and seriously worth the money.
OP my other half agreed to get one but rolled his eyes and said it was a birthday present. So like Lulu he pretty much did it to make me happy. Now he is a complete convert!
I had a problem with our lid as soon as it arrived, and it was fixed by the demonstrator/seller lady right away and under warranty.
We've had ours for 1 year and have already made back the money I spent on it. I make our own bread quite a bit (half wholemeal, half white flour with oats, sesame, sunflower and linseeds) which is much cheaper than Helgas. I also make my own rice, oat or almond milk for DS2 which works out way way cheaper. DS2 would drink about 1L a day, sometimes more. Rice milk is $2/L to buy (IF I can find the homebrand stuff) but only about 20c a litre to make - saving me $1.80 per day. The cost savings are even better for almond and oat milk.

I am subbing in - we signed on the dotted line last night so after 8 months of wanting our TX we are FINALLY getting one. I went to a demo and fell in love, I sung the praises to DH but he was skeptical. I asked him again this year if I could have one as we are eating clean food and I really believe it will help us. I love curries and take away a couple of times a week but actually would prefer to make my own so I know what is going into it and could prepare it with organic ingredients and that was one of the selling points to DH. I organised a demo last night in our home so he could see it in action and lucky for me the demonstrator was big on super foods and clean eating so it really fed into our philosophy so DH was sold and we signed up there and then. So I am looking forward to getting stuck into. I think I will save around $15 a week on bread alone, we usually buy 2 loaves of rye spelt bread from Sonoma (a sydney sourdough baker) and that costs us $9 per loaf.

I would check out Quirky Cooking blog and facebook. I think all of her recipes are refined sugar / dairy / gluten free.
If you are into raw foods or paleo try The Rawtarian and The Unrefined Kitchen.
There are heaps more but they are the pages i experiment from at the moment.
