Good luck with it all :)

Today is the most confrontational of all the pre-season tasks, the cleaning out of the fridge/pantry.
Good luck with it all :)
The cleaning out the pantry is an easy one for me; we only have some chocolate covered digestives and some chocolate topping for milkshakes, both of which I've told DH he has to finish by Friday or they're in the bin. We eat whole and pretty healthily in our home already (helps being pov and just not affording much junk lol) it's my portion sizes and eating out that do me in.
I had nothing to throw out this time, only "bad" thing in my cupboard was 80% dark chocolate but since that is an ok food, it stays.
My main one is wine - I have a glass or 2 after work to unwind.
Other than that we have to stop eating take out food
This one is tough for me. I am an emotional eater so have some biscuits and the likes.
The classes were all mucked around for the public holiday, and so they were starting 35 minutes after I got there, so I just got cracking, and did 90 minutes on my own.
Off to the park with the kids now.
Huzzah!
Have to catch up on task 4 and do 5 today too ... will wait til kids are down for their nap.... :)
#4 done.
Onto #5 now.
Task 5 done it was actually a lot quicker than I thought obviously in the break I had my diet wasn't overly effected its more the take out food that's my weakness not what I shop for at the supermarket
Task 5 quasi done.
There is stuff left over from our Australia Day party which wouldn't normally be in the house ...
Things we've been given and never eaten (3 bottles of powerade or similar, 5 chuppa chups, etc) ...
Things I craved while pregnant that I would normally want (lemon cordial, lemon sherberts) ...
Things that I like but probably shouldn't be eating (mi goreng noodles, tinned fruit salad, sesame snaps, dim sims for steaming).
And things which should really go, but if DH is going to eat them in the next 2 weeks, then I will turn a blind eye (madgi noodles, easy mac, packet soups, normal sausages, garlic bread, etc). I've told him though that they need to go in a box somewhere else, so that I can start clean from here and now.
So it wasn't too painful.
That's a LONG shopping list, though! Heaps of stuff there that we don't have. Several things that I wouldn't normally eat, but will get anyway because who knows whether it's actually really nice in the recipes she'll be giving us.
QUESTION: from those who have been there, done that:-
1. how important is the cereal? I usually have 1/3 cup rolled oats with half a cup of blueberries (10 sultanas and a teaspoon of honey when berries are out of season) for brekky ... surely that's better than special K or whatever other low cal cereal we can have?
2. for bread, is Burgen comparable to Abbots and Helgas?
Your breakfast sounds fine also with the bread we make our own so I'm not sure sorry
Breakfasts re all different, like every other meal. So if you have a staple breakfast that i under 300 cal, stick with it.
Not sure WRT to bread, sorry. Plug 2 slices of each into My Fitness Pal and compare.
Peanutter don't shop from that list from today's task. I did in my first round, and most of it I have never used. Cous cous, quinoa flakes, sardines/anchovies etc. There are some things - like basmati or brown rice as a replacement but to be honest it's something you can get as the time comes, if you need it. I would wait for the nutrition plan next Thursday... (just my opinion).
I second LimeSlice though, if you have a breakfast you are happy with, stick with it. I generally rotate the same breakfasts and lunches because it's much easier to leave them consistent and with what I know, but you will find a groove when it starts 'for real'.
Thanks, girls :)
So I'll just go shopping when they start with the actual shopping lists ... ?
Things I don't have:-
· Anchovies
· Capers
· Chilli sauce
· Cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
· Dried beans
· Light soy sauce
· Low-cal hot chocolate powder (make sure there are no trans-fats)
· Low GI cereal (eg Special K)
· Oyster sauce (msg free)
· Rice (basmati or brown)
· Seeds (e.g. sesame, pumpkin, sunflower)
· Sesame oil
· Tomato paste
· Tomato-based sauces (no added sugar)
· Frozen peas
· Kitchen scales
· Low-cal cottage cheese or ricotta cheese
· Low-cal yoghurt, no sugar
· Meat for sandwiches
· Parmesan cheese (strong flavoured so you use less)
Q1 answer - I never bought special K, I kept with my normal cereal for days I didn't like the breakfast option. I'd have that or porridge with berries, or yoghurt with fruit.
I made up a huge tupperware container of salad today for sides for the rest of this week for lunches, with some boiled eggs to add to it for protein. I've also cut up the last of my fruit (fresh blackberries, kiwifruit, pawpaw, papaya, plums) plus a banana on the side. That should keep me eating healthy all week, except for 2 lunches and a dinner out this week, which I will be doing healthy choices for.
Up to you, but I wouldn't buy it unless you know you will use it! Guess it's a personal thing.
Scales, yes, you definitely need those.
I guess some of the things, you should buy because you should shift to using them - cottage and ricotta are on some of the menus - ricotta on toast, cottage cheese as a snack. The hot choc powder like Jarrah is a good idea if you think you will use it too.
Maybe it has cut down since the last time i looked at it closely!
I made casharoos and raw cacao balls for this week. Have cut up carrots and watermelon and ready for snacks too. Didnt get to premake my smoothies but will do them in the morning and some chia pud too.
Thanks!!
The list was a bit longer, but I didn't copy in the things I've already got :)
I tend not to chop up much salad (fruit or otherwise) in advance, because I find it goes mushy ... So I take in a couple of cucumbers, tomatos, a bag of baby spinach or lettuce mix, etc at the start of the week and just slap it together.
Fruit - I tend to eat it whole or chopped up and in yoghurt (so I do it at the time, so I can pour any juice from the chopping into the yoghurt too).
Will get some decent kitchen scales :) I'll otherwise wait until the weekly things are up, and go from there :)
Sitting down with my blueberries and oats now :D
I love my fridgesmart containers :) A lifeline in this household. I try to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon preparing food for the week. I cook what can be cooked & frozen, I cut up everything else ready. This will be especially helpful when I'm back at uni 3 nights a week and working a full week.
I'm going to have some porridge and fruit when I get to work, I've still got to iron and head out the door & I'm running late.
I think I need to invest in some of these fridge smart containers, they are Tupperware aren't they?
I think preparing ahead will be helpful for us fitting in workouts around us both working and studying that way we can still get time together especially when we get pregnant
