LOL - when they do research on animals that are actually supposed to eat meat I'll pay attention!!
I used to get pretty much bang on 30% of calories from protein, and had no trouble conceiving. At the moment I'd probably only get about 20%, which is still a pretty high protein diet. I upped my unrefined carbs when I got pregnant to increase the spectrum of foods & vitamins I get.
Also - Atkins always stated in the strongest way that his diet was unproven on pregnant and breastfeeding women, and should not be followed by these people. In my reconing, you'd have to be a pretty horrible mum to take any chances when it comes to the nine short months you grow your baby for.
