Oh dear, I wish I had read this thread instead of just quickly typing off a very sad and sorry sounding new thread in the general health forum! Basically, I *think* I am pg (AF 2 days late, pg symptoms, but no HPT because of my own incompetency with pee catching) and feeling a bit depressed about not having lost weight first. I was wondering if it's possible to actually lose weight, or at the least not gain any, while pg, for someone who is technically obese (I need to lose 50-60kg). Provided I was ensuring I was getting plenty of nutrients for the baby, not going hungry, and not going too hard in workouts, it would be safe, right?

Hi Acria, congrats! It sounds like you are pg I hope you find that you are soon!
It's definitely possible to safely lose weight whilst being pg, providing it's done in a safe manner directed by your GP. I read in a "Pregnancy&Birth" magazine that it is actually healthier for a baby if an overweight/obese mother is able to maintain or lose weight during the pregnancy, rather than a slimmer mother stacking on the kgs.

Talk to your GP about it when you have your blood test and they'll be able to help you for sure
    Good luck with everything!

Mumma&Bubbas -Interesting information re calorie intake. I really need to stick to some sort of diet during this pregnancy. Fortunately I lost 4 kgs before falling pregnant and I was back to my pre second pregnancy weight but my shape has changed and I have no muscle tone to speak of.

I was thinking of joing Weight Watchers online just to get meal ideas and keep a track of my diet.Anyone have any opinions on that idea?

Acria- I certainly hope that you have got yourself a BFP. If you are pregnant I would talk to your doctor regarding weight loss and I would get a referal to a dietitian. At least you will have guided information. Personally my opinion is if you are eating healthy, avoiding junk, and doing some light excercise I can't see why you'd put on more weight than required for the baby.

Ladies, I've got the pregiebellys dvd and so far I tried the warm up and I felt like such an unco!!!. Maybe I'll just stick to doing 20mins treadmil and the toning exercises on the dvd only.

My time is limited because my girls wake up any time from 6.30 to 7am and I am buggered if I can get time to exercise in peace anyother time during the day. I best just make myself get up at 5.45 each morning....Eeek
