hey lilias... maybe you ought to just go in to your doctors an see the nurse just to get a swab done before the weekend... you don't want it to be tonsilitis or strep or something... i remember having both at the same time and i couldn't swallow or even breathe without pain.. and this is because it's really really dangerous. strep can lead to rheumatic fever which can damage (sometimes irrevocably) your heart. and the last thing anyone needs is a preventable heart problem.:

WOOT! 1.5kg lost this week (actually I think last weeks was falsely up). I'm on 60.2. Sooo tantalizingly close to the 59's!!!
I've lost 8.8kg overall. Also lost 31cm overall, 10 off boobs, 13 off waist & 8 off hips. 5cm drop this week which surprised me!!
Having a celebratory chai now :D

been off the computer for afew days, trying to be more active.have been eating more this week, thinkmy milk is suffering a bit as baby seems hungry allthe time and i feel 'less full' of milk. been trying to just increase my portions at breakfast and lunch and have a healthy pudding after dinner. see how that goes. and adding an egg every few days. i used to eat so many eggs and hadnt had one for weeks! so probablywont get a big loss but happy to cruise along for a few weeks see if things are ok with my milk etc. :)

Hi all! :hello: I'm back again after a self-imposed ban and need HELP!!!! I have zero motivation right now to exercise and am back to baaadd snacking and have put on weight again. It's not a huge amount but at 5'1 it all goes on my gut. :rolleyes: I was doing so well but with it being dark after 5 Im not running and I have gotten to the habit of napping with the kids instead of getting up and doing my 30 day shred. So to keep me accountable I am putting it out there HERE that I will do some exercise every day - whether it is yoga, 30 day shred, walk with the pram or run. I am also on a 3 mth junk food ban ( Maccas etc) and need to go back to snacking healthily!
So that's it from me for now - off to update my sig up to what I am again - I don't know why I am finding it so hard to lose this last 5 kgs or so and keep it off.
For those who need sweets after dinner I am the same, I always want chocolate so I bought some of those Jarrah choc-o-latte drinks that make me feel like I am having something naughty, or else I get some Diet choc mousses. Pity some are Nestle.

hey all!
had a small scone last night with dinner... so that was my bad thing... have been dreaming about cake and am hoping it helped. i was thinking maybe i need to allow myself a treat every fortnight or so to curb the craving. can't tell if it did help yet as last night i really didn't sleep much as bub seemed to be awake almost the whole night and insisting on being latched... his room was quite dry as we'd had the heater going all day. in fact maybe i should switch it off and open the window today since it's sunny (*finally*)...
re milk, i have been told that sardines give you amazing milk, and surely have all the right things for a good diet anyway: protein, fatty acids and iron. anyway, just remember that even if we have lapses we have to listen to our bodies and our babies and be strong but also be sensible.

gah! had another small scone and a few corn chips along with some nuts and dried fruit (not feeling guilty about that though).. hopefully this is not the beginning of the end. i will blame my period for the time being... hopefully will be over in a few days and can feel more like myself!
SJ - 30 Day shred is a DVD I have that is by Jillian Michaels, they are short 20 in workouts that make you work and hard! Perfect for when kids are in bed and you are time challenged. They are really really good and get progressively harder over the 3 levels. I WILL do one tonight. I think I need to not fluff around but just tell myself I WILL do stuff while the kids are in bed etc.
I just ate some homemade bread but instead of putting something healthy on it I put Easy cheese spread :rolleyes: without even thinking. That is my issue alot of the time, I think, oh I am hungry and reach for what is easy and close and then regret it once I have eaten it.
All starts today even with this little hiccup!

Livvy snacking with your period is pretty common I think! I know that's when I struggle. Yep nuts and dried fruit are better choices than chips or chocolate! But be careful with the sugar content in the fruit, I think it's twice that in fresh fruit! I had a scone issue yesterday too - 2 scones - freshly made by my mum! Had low sugar jam on them though haha, that makes all the difference ;).:

Keep up the good work everyone else too - personally I didn't have a weight loss this week, but have lost a few more cms. I am convincing myself that it must be muscle I am building through exercise and nothing to do with the 1 tiny sliver of mudcake, 3 ferrero rochers and 1 gluten free cupcake had on Friday - all due to 2 staff members leaving!! Argh it can be sooo hard sometimes!
Incase anyone's interested, thought I'd share a flour free pancake recipe from the 17DD.
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup skim milk
1 egg
pinch salt
I put a bit of sugar substitute in mine
1 teas baking powder
Process oats in food processor till a fairly fine powder. Mix with all ingredients. Leave 2 mins and then beat again.
Cook as per usual with 'normal' pancakes.
These really are good, they have a kind of nutty, coconutty flavour, just aren't as fluffy as regular pancakes.
im def making these in the morning. dd and i always used to make pancakes together for our 'breakfast number 2' needless to say i no longer have 2 breakfasts anymore.:

thanks ausgirl! yeh, i always try to keep it down with the dried fruit... small fist full of sultanas or up to 4 dried apricots. and am sure that was the problem with the scones lol! mum made them yesterday and they have *currants* in them! i almost melt with saliva lol.
have had rather lazy weekend... no walks, just work on my computer. but am planning on walking to PIN tomorrow (about 8km one way) and have been doing pilates before i go to bed, after have got bub down. whichi makes me feel like have made a small effort. only do 20-25mins including stretches (a few mins at the end).. does that count do you think? does doing it in the evening make any difference?
anyway... i *love* the sound of those pancakes! but really don't think i need any encouragement in that direction lol. and prob do my rolled oats quota for the day with porridge, as bub and i both have it as our breakfasts (nice slow burning carbs :D ). have you thought about putting berries in instead of sugar? blueberries are totally best, but i'm sure other berries would be just as spectacular (mmmm... strawberries! if only i didn't swell up lol!), and then sugar is just overkill, but i guess if you're not a berry person is fine :)
beckoes - am glad to hear that bub has been feeding well and feeling full again. i'm sure just really pushing the water is helping. i used to drink a 750ml bottle of water while bub was feeding, until he became too interested in the bubbles to feed lol. but essentially the water is the key thing to production, no matter what you eat. but if you're worried about the quality, sardines are totally the way to go! ;)

Oooh berries! I have frozen blueberries in the freezer, would they work ok? I always baulk at the ridiculously priced tiny fresh punnets in my grocer. I personally am not a porridge fan - but love the pancakes. It serves 2 btw!
yep, frozen is fine! fresh ones hold themselves together better and have a better flavour but frozen is what we use too in the off season. have you got room for some bushes? we have 4 blueberry bushes, but have a pretty large edible garden. they haven't produced so well for the last two years but i think it might be all the moving around we've done as before that we'd had them probably about 6-7 years and they have been prolific every year. either that or they're feeling a bit root bound... should probably plan them out now but haven't got around to it.
just like frozen fruit is great in say muffins - frozen apples and fresh cranberries.... yum! and then you can put in just a fraction of the sugar (as well as). :D

Did my day 1 of 30 day shred yesterday and my arm is sore so I think I will do it again tonight minus weights and push ups. I WILL do it tonight once kids go to bed though!

hmm. know the feeling of no self control... had a sliver of banana cake and then had pasta with my dinner instead of without... it didn't even add anything to the dish! was just needless crap taking up room on my plate and now some of it in my tum, on my hips, bum, thighs, bat wings etc. damn it! and now just feel depressed and guilty.
i looked up the 30 day shred thing and thought it looked quite like what i do in pilates except with weights and no rolling lol. tanstar maybe try without weights or substitute the weights for a can of beans in each hand cos you don't want to get all biceppy, just toned. that's what my pilates book by lesley ackland said... she said nothing over 1 kg each (pref less). i do a pilates class once a week and try to do a pilates workout several times a week on the days i don't go for a walk, or on days like today that i only went for a short walk (and ate terrible needless processed carbs...).
lol apparently we had an earthquake here but i didn't notice... i hate them anyway. they are just too scary. i can't even think what it would be like in christchurch.
just adding in that i measured my waist this morning (may have since severely damaged this but hey) and happy happy! was 80.5cm (with the whole breathe in thing... does everyone do that?) down from 83! woohoo!
Nah it's not cheesy at all, based on muscle confusion - 3 rounds of a circuit with cardio, strength and abs. I like it because it is fast and she pushes you hard - like if you want a break take no more than 5 seconds, and if you feel like you are going to die that's ok because you need to work hard to get good results. She is tough but it's good. I am super sore still today so will yoga it up tonight I think and back to it tomorrow. Livvy - yay for your measurement!!

AFM so frickin' cold today I haven't done a thing. Off to try a new zumba DVD. I so so so so so SO don't feel like doing anything. Shall report back to prove i'm honest cos nothing else will make me do this otherwise lol!
EDIT: 40 mins of new zumba DVD done (but it just got annoying cos I'm unco) so finished with 20 mins on the bike. YAH!

way to go everyone! yay for motivation! did my 20ish min of pilates plus stretches last night but didn't do more as was a bit wobbly and didn't want to do myself an injury.
the breathe in thing is that i read on the heart foundation site (so not just some crackpot lol) to take a "normal breath in" to expand the diaphragm i imagine... is a little depressing as adds about an extra 3cm to my waist measurement (from just standing normally) but then am never sure if it is a "normal" breath in lol... am a singer so can expand diaphragm... but hey, whatever!
the shred thing i did actually put one on my watch list on trade me but decided i can't afford the $25... so will just leave it. need to buy sheets for the baby's bed today as his ripped.. and then he thought that fascinating so has been shredding them lol. and i didn't have another set to fit that bed (since he's decided he doesn't like sleep in his cot anymore).
but first, shower and then to a local playgroup to give a talk about our plunket fundraiser! yay... is about 2.5weeks away and am just over it lol!

Hi Ladies - Hi Belfie :) I'm here.
I haven't read over the last 15 pages but I need motivation and I need to keep myself honest. I need to lose at least 5kg which doesn't sound like a lot but it needs to happen so I can fit into my clothes properly again and not have my muffin top (which is rather large) hanging out all over the place. Sigh. I haven't weighed myself as I'm a little scared of the number.
I got the book Michelle Bridges Lose the Last 5kg and whilst I haven't emersed myself completely in this I did the exercises recommended yesterday and I am hurting today. And I only did one set of everything and she wanted 3! I think I'm going to take it slow as I haven't properly exercised all year.
Looking forward to getting to know you and will have a read a bit later on.
did you stretch afterwards? i find three main ones make it feel like nothing has happened after i do pilates: piriformis stretch, and one that is like kneeling on one knee with the other foot out in front between your hands (all flat on the floor: hands and foot) and then lean forward with you head down to you knee (or as close as you can) and straighten the leg in front (again as much as you can) and hold it there - you should feel the stretch along the back of the front leg; and the last one is after you do the second one you straighten your body up again and tilt your pelvis forward (pubic bone forward, hips back) and you should feel a stretch in the front of the hip and top the thigh (front). with this one you just need to keep yourself from slouching.. :):
hmmm... not sure what you mean by playgroup (for us is play and coffee with other mums and bubs), but plunket is a free government run health service for babies from 6 weeks up to 5 years and their parents/caregivers - not so much health for the adults as advice on breastfeeding stuff. if you look at wikipedia under "royal new zealand plunket society" that has the whole story of plunket.:
am on the committee for my area and have been running the advertising for our big event this year. plunket usually has a national annual appeal (around the beginning of march) but this year there was the deadly earthquake on feb 22 so we decided that we didn't want to take any attention away from the families in christchurch who (still) desperately need our help... so yeah. annual appeal brings in the majority of our income (to pay rent etc for the plunket rooms) so we have to work really really hard this year to make ends meet. and trying to write my seminar and essay for my honours degree too... bleh so exhausting!
but went for a nice long walk and the talk seemed to go well. yay!

I agree that stretching might help, and also if you're sore the next day, doing some light exercise is actually better for recovery than doing nothing - so maybe a light walk or something like that? FYI, my sig says i've only got 2.2kg to go, but honestly I think I have another 4.2kg to go - i'll keep you company :)
Belfie - know that 'argh I font want to exercise' feeling so well lately. Going outside in the chill of the evening has been getting to me too. So glad you got out there and exercised though - excuses don't reap results is my mentality! So close to your goal now!!!

AFM - I hit the low 61's yesterday AND on Tuesday night instructed my first Body Attack class since having DD2 11 wks ago. I felt fit, I felt strong and I felt confident! Yep, this old chook still has it in her! Oh, and I managed to do up my size 8 jeans on Tuesday too. All on all it's been a great week for me fitness wise.
Now if I could get to the high 59's by the 19th of the month I will be ever so grateful! *crossing fingers*

AFM. no loss this week, but no gain and the last few days have been a little off on the food front. yesterday marked two years since my lovely mother in law passed away, im still holding on to alot of anger about the whole thing and i ended up emotional eating...chocolate etc..anything i could get myhands on. but i feel stronger today and cooking up a bit pot of veg soup for when i get 'the hunger'!
think it will help to write out my goals like i was doing before....
today :
-2L of water
-no unhealthy snacking
-some sort of actvity
-low salt
-be happy that i maitained rather than gained!

ugh! so jealous leesa ;) lol! man oh man would i love to able to do up a pair of 14 jeans! my 16s are feeling loose but not that loose am pretty sure lol! you must be a petite wee thing... have never been a size 8 in anything below the waist except when i had my wisdom teeth out and couldn't eat anything for two weeks... if i go under 60 i just look emaciated... but man would the low 60s be nice! well just hoping that when period is over and can allow self back on the scales (have been worried it would mess with the weight and make me sad lol) hopefully will not be above 80 and really really hoping will be below... sigh.
have only walked for about 1 and a bit kms today so not very far at all. will do some pilates later instead as has started raining and is meant to for the rest of the day apparently (so much for a gorgeous sunny morning!).

Livvy - throughout my entire childhood / teenage years and adulthood I had always been on the chubby side. At the end of my 2nd pregnancy I was 92kgs (previously my weight had probably been around 65 - 67 kgs - I'm 162cms by the way). I felt yucky and hated my reflection. So in late September 2009 I started exercising vigorously daily and counting my calories. By early March 2010 I weight 59kgs - the lightest I had ever been in adulthood. Then by mid April I weighed 55kgs and maintained that until I became pregnant with my 3rd baby. So I know that it IS possible to totally change the shape of your body.
I have a link to my blog in my signature, and I also have a FB page called 'Fat Chic Slim' where I try to help others keep on the straight and narrow and offer some 'tough love'. I'm generally pretty hard and fast (maybe abrupt) with my advice (I am a qualified / registered Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor fyi), so if people want my honest advice they will get it - and possibly squirm lol, but it has helped others.
i for one always love your advice leesa!!! :) sometimes i need harsh/abrupt!!:
yup i totally get the loathing of reflection.. is it actually possible to get a flat tum again (with all the extra skin not to mention love handles) after having babies? i do think my arms are starting to look more toned though - am doing dips and triceps press ups for the bat wings.
will have a look at the blog soon (is late here - 10.30pm) but am not a FB member. have resisted this long, would prefer not to become one lol :P
anyway, one can hope. and it has only been 2 and a half weeks so can't feel hopeless yet lol! first goal - fundraiser. second goal - nan's 80th. third goal - 72kg. is my ultimate hope to make it to goal three before goal two, but reality can be harsh. esp when am a hungry hungry hippo a hungry hungry hippo i love to feed my face, a hungry hungry hippo... somethingsomethingsomethingsomething. does anyone else remember that ad? was a board game thing.

yay! weighed self this morning and a squinch under 12 and a half stone so when got down low enough to see kgs looks to be about 78.5-79kgs. which is not much... since has been about a week... but hopefully will get easier now that period has finally left me alone. and yay! 25% gone, only 75% to go! is quite cheering to think that every kilo is 5% :D

okay i totally feel like i'm hogging the thread here... but i have a burning question for everyone.
what is your opinion: does going for a walk (so slow cardio type thing) straight after doing an interval training workout lessen the impact of the HIIT? or is it okay?...leesa?
the interval workout was really fab and felt so zappy and energized afterwards even though was sweating (as opposed to exhausted and wanting to sit down), it was amazing! am totally a convert even though has only been my first (beginner level - 12mins of 60:60) one today :)
Livvy - I'll come help hog the thread :lol: In regard to your question, well I'm not sure what HIIT stands for? But I woulda thought that walking is still walking = i.e. burning calories and worthwhile doing anytime. Plus after a workout, it'll help give you a good cool down. I'm glad you are loving your new interval workout. I did another 30min cycle tonight, and my legs felt sooooo dead... but about 15 mins in, I felt great again! It was really odd, but good too. Now i'm finished I'm so glad I did it. I've done a good hour of exercise every single day this week - not easy with hubby at work & freezing cold weather! So I'm rather pleased with mahself!
And while I'm ranting, for anyone who is just getting started. Well I've been going since the start of march, and i have to say I feel sensational. I'm so much stronger & fitter, I have heaps more energy. I am feeling fantastic. I am loving every single change to my body - it's all been for the better. And when I look back, the so-called "ease" and "stress-relief" of eating crappy food was nothing compared to how I feel now.
Hey I have a question too - relates to your flat belly question Livvy. I have a bit of stomach muscle separation still... and up near my diaphragm, it's still a bit of a funny shape - kinda sticks out & I don't like it. I know there's specific exercises to do (can find 'em by googling), but I just wondered if anyone else had tried them?
Leesa - I was very interested to hear your story. I'm 158cm, so another one who's on the ...erm... dainty side. I was always reasonably trim in highschool & early adulthood, but then with health issues, my weight went up to the mid 60's. I got very sick & lost it all, down to 49kg (bit too skinny) then settled down in the mid 50's too. At that stage I started doing triathlons, and if I may say so modestly (:rofl:) looked awesomely hot (even tho I didn't FULLY appreciate it at the time). Then some more health issues and I slowly crept up to 70 - and have fluctuated from 62 thru to 75 with pregnancies. Right now i'm 60.2 (to be precise) and I haven't seen this weight for quite some years (and I still can't believe I'm here tbh!). I'm still debating with my DH what weight to aim for, as I initially said 58kg, but I'm pretty close & I think I have more than 2kg to lose (carrying my weight all on my torso/waist/back/boobs). I was gonna go for 56kg, but reading your story actually made me tempted by 55 lol. I guess it's personal and only I will know when it feels right. I think DH worries I'll look too scrawny below mid 50's, whereas I think I just don't ever do scrawny, I actually have quite a muscular athletic build no matter what my weight. Do you feel that 55kg is what you want now, and how did you know when you were at the "right" weight for you? Oh and I like the "tell it how it is" approach too. And taking body attack already, atta girl!!!! Wow!!!

AFM - have AF this week, but I think I might make it under the 60's and omg I am practically salivating< I can almost taste it (ha!) and I'm soooo close! I've exercised really well this week, and I'm hopeful that even with AF I'll be there :crossfingers: weigh in tomorrow....

EDIT: I DID IT, I DID IT! Reached 59.8kg.... lost 0.4kg. Total loss so far is now 9.2kg. Ecstatic!!!!!!
Hi everyone, glad to see you are all stil going along nicely and reaching your goals.
Weighed in today at 77.9kg - so 5.6kg down since I started on 10th June. I am currently on day 13 of cycle two of the 17 day diet. This cycle slows the weight loss down a bit as every second day carbs and red meats are included. So I've been having some natural starches (brown rice, porridge, etc) on the off day which is nice. Have also had a few treats here and there, which the diet doesn't allow in this cycle, but I felt I really needed to scratch the itch on a few occasions - and the scales are still going down - albeit much more slowly than in cycle one.
I've been exercising most days - on the weekends it's been a very fast paced hour walk each day and at least 40 mins for 3 out of the 5 weekdays this week. I have also noticed a change around my tummy and thighs with how my clothes are fitting - or not fitting to be exact. 8cms off my tummy so far which is great!
