I lost all the weight I put on with DS with no special effort...but it did take a while to drop off. I was still getting around in my maternity jeans for a few months after he was born which was thoroughly depressing but all of a sudden it just dropped off - I didn't do anything, it just happened. From memory it was about 5 or 6 months afterwards. I think it would have happened faster if I'd been able to go for more walks with DS but he HATED the pram...but that's another story.
This time around it seems to be just the same...I am still having to wear the maternity jeans because I don't have many clothes that fit me nicely at the moment and DD is 2 months old (and she WILL spew on me and my clothes, no matter how often I tell her not to LOL). So I'm just waiting for the same thing to happen. My "fat jeans" fit me...so that's something.
I do have a philosophy that "God helps those who help themselves" ie I make an effort not to eat too much junk food, both during pregnancy and after. It's important to remember that while you need more calories for pregnancy and breastfeeding, if you take in more calories than you need then of course you are going to put on more weight than you need. I think the best way to regulate that is to not limit your portions, eat until you are satisfied but make sure what you eat is good quality fuel...that will naturally stop you from taking in too many calories.
Actually...one of the other posters has made me think...she said the weight dropped off when she stopped BFing so much and that has made me wonder if I am the same... now that I think about it, when the weight really started to drop off quite dramatically it was after DS started on solids and I introduced a couple of FFs. Hmmmm....
But I would concur with Kelly...I know that I was back to my pre-preggy figure by the time DS was 9 months old and I can honestly say it happened on its own. I do remember thinking "9 months to put it on, 9 months to take it off."
