So it's taken me over 2 weeks to complete week 1 :( But tonight I was naughty and did 2 runs in one session so I'm up to run 2 week 2 now. Even If it takes me longer than the 9 weeks I'm not gonna give up!!

great job MM, two sessions in one night, you are a keen lady :D
I'm still terchnically in week 2 but I have been running with my DP and kiddies. its been so great, we push each other. there is only 7 weeks to the GC 10k run and I still havent figured out milk supply/running yet :( are you bf MM? Is so how do you manage it?
Oh that's so great that you've been running with your family! Yes I'm breastfeeding too, I haven't had any supply problems but I've only done 1 run a week so far with no real exercise in between. I havent even really thought about it to be honest. Do you find your supply drops when your exercise more?

Hi guys! I am not really a runner - in fact I really find it so mentally difficult to do - but it increases my fitness so quickly so I am making myself do it. At the moment I am trying to do 2 6km jogs a week. This morning I was so happy as I did it in just under 44 mins. I am aiming to get that down to 30 mins over a few months. Anyway its nice to see some other people jogging out there. Anyone have any tips on improving mental strength while jogging? It is definitely the part that lets me down.
UsPlus2 & munchkin....I try to do my runs/exercise after I feed DD. That way it's more comfortable for me and I've found it hasn't really affected DD. When I first started out, I found my supply dropped a little bit because I didn't increase my water intake but once I started drinking more I found I didn't have a problem. A few extra feeds from DD boosted my supply back up.
I haven't been for a run nor done any exercise since Easter due to this stupid cold and (suspected whooping) cough. Trying to rest up and eat well so I can run in the Mothers Day Classic on Sunday.
Krysalyss, that's a great effort. I find the mental bit the hardest as well. I find I just tune into the music I'm listening to but sometimes that's not enough to distract me! Sometimes I spend my runs telling myself I can do it, lots of people do it, so can I. I tell myself I'll just keep going until the end if the song or I'll just go to the next bus stop or light post. I give myself lots of challenges in my head. I find that if I really do need to stop running, I'll slow right down to a slow shuffle, that way I'm still doing the motions but giving myself a bit of recovery. If I stop altogether and start walking I find it really hard to get back running!
Week 2 complete :)
Managed to get to the gym Mon, Wed & Fri this week, its a miracle! I'm a little worried about the 3 min runs comming up next week.
Laranna I always do my runs right after a feed too, it way too uncomfortable trying to get into my sports bra otherwise! Supply is still great, although I did try out the lacation cookies this week so I think they helped a little.
Cant wait to start week 3 on Monday ;)
UsPlus2 do you do your runs outside or on the treadmill? I did my first 2 outside from then started on the treadmill at the gym and now I am also getting sore knees :( Might sound totally ridiculous but I was just thinking maybe the 2 could be related...
I'm doing the Mothers Day Classic tomorrow morning...8km! It will be my furtherest distance....eek!
Good luck!! :cheer:
Yes, I am Mon, Wed, Fri, too! :D And I am the same, without the app I wouldn't stick to the program!
I had shin splints in the first week, they have settled now. Sorry, not much help. Do you stretch before and after?
Wohoo! You're a champion!
AFM, finished week 3. I'm scared of the next week! Eeek! :D How's everyone coping?
Good luck tomorrow Laranna, I'm sure you'll do great. Make sure you let us know how you go.
Polly - how is your shin splints going?
Raupe - congrats on finishing week 3, champion effort. and congrats on your weight loss, your past the half way mark :) You go girl!
MM - I was running outside when I was getting sore knees. In hindesight it was because I wasnt warming up properly, wasnt really doing all my stretchs. I was also sitting badly when I was on the computer or b/f Lillie. I also sit on my left ankle so my knee is bent. Anyway have stopped sitting on my knee and my last few runs my knee wasnt as sore.
AFM - I'm out :( well for this week at least. I found a lump in my side, that is increasingly getting more and more painful. Dr thinks its my gallbladder, and has told me to stop running until she knows what is going on. I have a scan on Friday. IF it is my gallbladder and I have to have it out, its a 6 week recovery. I'm devasted. I was really loving the running. Means the 10k GC run is def out of the question. Felt like I was getting the old me back, now its on the back burner again. Nothing I can do but stay positive, eat healthy and do some light resistance training for now. Will still be tracking you ladies though :)
Oh no, UsPlus2! :(
I hope it's nothing serious. Let us know how you go!
PollyA: How did you go in week 4? I researched shin splints a bit and it can be caused by the way you roll your feet when you land. If you tend to roll your feet in (more weight put on the inside of the foot than the outside), it can put extra pressure on the shin bone - causing shin splints. They recommend that you buy running shoes that counteract the "rolling-in" of the foot. HTH
Thanks. My shins were really bad. Every step (walking) hurt so I've taken a rest but hoping to repeat week 3 and get running again. I always get good running shoes for over pronators but might be time for more. Love hearing the updates
UsPlus2 - So sorry to hear you had to have surgery :( I hope it all went well and wish you a speedy recovery. Hopefully you'll be running again before you know it! :)
Raupe - I just saw your weight loss tracker cause I'm usually on my phone. You go girl, what an achievement!!
I finished week 3 last night! I was getting worried about the 5 min runs in week 4 but last night I stretched my last 3 min run out to 5 mins with no problems! I must say I'm rather proud of myself at the moment. I never ever would have thought I could become a runner but now I'm finding it quite addictive.
Hope everyone else is going well :)
So does it work on an ipod, or do you need an iphone??
I'm extremely 'i' illiterate, lol
It would work on an iPod. I'm hoping to get back into it this week. Just recovering from virus and hoping to be able to afford a new pair of shoes. How's everyone going? Your stories are great motivation
Sorry to hear you've been sick Polly, are your shin splints better?
I got new shoes last week and it's made such a difference! No more sore knees :) I'll be starting week 5 either today or tomorrow. I'm not sure about being able to run 20 mins straight by the end of this week like it expects....we'll see :)

I'm also doing 5.1 tomorrow! :o Aahhhh, I'm scared!!!
I struggled this week. I did the runs and I didn't quit, but I really struggled. :(
I'm not sure how well I'll do in week 5. Especially the thought of running 20min straight terrifies me!!
Any suggestions?
