Just had a quick look at Calorie King:

    100g lean uncooked bacon - 1500mg sodium
    100g cornflakes - 720mg sodium

    30g (1 cup) corn flakes - 215mg sodium

Smoke cured bacon is very different, much lower salt levels - also worth bearing in mind that much of the salt leaches out of the bacon as it cooks, so it's possible that the statement could be true.

Jeezus thats scary! Is it true that anything over 500mg should be a no-no?

Thanks Bear! I was wondering how they could possible get that statement to be true. In fact when I cooked my soup today I cooked the bacon before putting it in the pot, then I put a bone in for the flavour. I hope that lessens the salt content!

What an interesting thread. Great discussion/debate!

I like Punkin's suggestion of trying to eat 20 different foods per day. That might ensure a balanced diet if you were healthy? That would be a hard thing to do consistently I think, or maybe it just sounds hard? So far today I think I would only have 7 or 8 different foods & even with dinner still to go I don't think I'll make it.
