Hey Nay I was just reading your post last night. low GI is definitley not low carbs. It's just different sorts of foods. For example wholegrain bread has a lower GI than white, and doongara rice has a lower GI than short grain.
Chocolate has a very low GI however it's not necessarily all that good for you IYKWIM? As long as you have one sort of low GI food with each meal, you should feel fuller for longer.
The brain NEEDS carbs to function properly as it's only source of energy is glucose. Here is a good list.
How to apply the GI to your diet
Can you tell the GI of a food by its ingredients?
No, there are many factors that influence the GI of a food.
These include:
The amount and type of sugar in the food
The type of starch
The food?s acidity
The food?s fat and fibre content
Therefore it is difficult to predict what the GI of a food will be, just by looking at its ingredients.
How can I apply the GI to my eating plan?
If you wish to apply the GI to your eating plan, or have been advised to do so, it is quite easy:
Have at least three low GI foods throughout the day, ideally one at each meal. Remember, not all the carbohydrates you eat need to be LOW GI.
You don?t need to avoid all HIGH GI foods, but try to eat them with low or intermediate GI foods whenever possible. This will bring down the average GI of the meal.
Include low saturated fat, high carbohydrate foods with each meal and snack.
Try to evenly spread the amount of carbohydrate you eat throughout the day.
Hope that helps![]()
lol sorry I got confused. I meant a low carb diet. At the same time though I was looking at low GI products as well. Thanks for that info! Extremely helpful![]()

Welcome Annie - it's never to late to start!
Its been a very busy day for me. I went out to lunch with workmates today and there was not a lot of choice that didn't involve a deep fryer (we were at a service station road house on the highway.....I know I know......next time I need to say no - I left a really healthy lunch at work too).
Breakfast:150g starwberries and pineapple; 175g low fat natural yoghurt; 1 espresso coffee - black no sugar.
Lunch:600ml diet zero coke; I chicken, lettuce and mayo sandwich on multigrain bread (forgot to ask for no marg - eeeek!). (Normally I would have had a hamburger and chips so feel ok about the choice I did make).
Dinner:BBQ'd steak with morocan spice rub (yum); salad - lettuce, celery, capsicum, cucumber.
Snacks: a couple of plums.
Water: Struggling.
Exercise:Nil additional.

I have decided to stop starving myself as much as my family were ready to leave me LOL I am just trying to take the healthy option and leave out all the extra chocolate and cakes. I am also trying to exercise more which for me is a big thing as I am really bad at that.
I have been sooooo bad the last half of this week, in regards to dinner. I've been working long hours and it has been the responsibility of DH & DSS to organise dinner. Dinner at the bowling alley on Thursday & Friday does not equate to decent food!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least the food during the day has been healthy. BUT my body does not like the amount of fat it has consumed, especially since they couldn't tell me if they used canola oil in their cooking.
OK so I wasn't going to come on here and be a twat, however I NEED to tell someone.........that I lost 3.5kgs this week!!!!
I'm not starving myself just cut down to what I know I should be eating. Have to say I'm quite chuffed and wanted to say to you girls THANKYOU for the INSPIRATION!!!![]()
O M G Kim, that is AMAZING! Well done!
Thanks for that...just splurted coffee on my puter!OK so I wasn't going to come on here and be a twat

Kim - WOW!!!! Thats amazing, what a great amt to lose, well done.
Wow Kim well done.
I lost nothing, nada zero zilch.
Just cleaning my carpets. Have taken four hours so far with the rug doctor. Gotta doing me some good cause I am sweating like an oink oink.... LOL
Wow Kim, I can't get over that loss. I have NEVER lost that much in a week (except when Katy was born cause she weighed about that!!! LOL).
