    Excerise - Easy Option

To all the lovely mums and mums ttc'ing,

I will be ttc'ing after I've lost 10kilos as I know I'll feel healthier and fitter during my pregnancy, as I know it can take a big toll on your heart and body. I have found an easy excerise option (even though I am a member at my local gym!) after my m/c several weeks back, I decided that I was going to get fit before I fell again. Anyway to cut a long story short, if any of you have Austar or Foxtel, the community channel Aurora has Aeorobics Oz Style on every morning at 6.30am its only a half hour excercise session but for those of us who have been sedentary for a long time or are just wanting to get back into excersing again, its a great programme and I can tell you, you do really work up a sweat....now all I need to do is buy some scales! My goal is to be able to complete the Red Arrow (this is a tough 1km walking track up in the hills around Cairns) and then hopefully complete the Blue Arrow (which is a 4km hike up the hills) which my DH already does now.....so switch on the telly, put the bub in the bouncer and have a 30 min workout....you'll feel so much better and your excercise is then done for the day...

    Hi Mannie,

Thanks for the tip. I was going to look on Foxtel to see if there was anything on there that might benefit me. I don't want to loose weight as such, but my shape has changed since having bub, and I have no energy.

I am so jealous - you living in Cairns. We were going to move there last Christmas, but I fell pregnant sooner than expected and have had a busy time with medical issues in DD through the pregnancy and since her birth, we are going to re-assess the Cairns move this Christmas! Hope to be up there soon (Sorry, got a bit off track then - excitement!) - I will look out for that walk when I get up there, may be a future challenge for me.

    Hi Matildasmummy,

You'll love it up here, its always warm, and winter only lasts a couple of weeks and then you only need a light jumper. I made the move from Sydney 2 years ago now and my DH made the move 5 years ago from Sydney also and we havne't looked back, except for the fact we miss all our family but hey soon we'll have our own family. Goodluck with the move.....its the Aurora Channel on Foxtel

Good luck girls! I'm trying to lose 6 kg before TTC too, same reasons as you, Mannie! I've actually already lost 18kg over the last year or two, so it's just the last few that I'm trying to get rid of and keep off!
It's a bit hard at the moment because I don't know what's going on with work, really, so I am lacking routine. I cycle 20km every day at the moment, but I know that's not going to be enough. It'll stop me from gaining for a while though!

thats great 18Kgs!!! wow wish I could lose that much I so need to my BMI is 39 which is very bad! so am trying to get that down to at least 34 or 32. its soo hard as Im 37 years old and just want to hurry up and get on with TTC but I need to do whats best for the body and the baby. I had the lap band surgery done about 2 years ago and I lost about 10kgs for a while but then it just all came back on, I still have it and try but its so very hard your whole lifestyle needs to change and I regret having it done now, I suppose its not a quick fix and not for everybody....I know the key is excerise cause my diet is pretty good and very healthy. I've thought about giving cycling a go but I couldn't get my feet into those stirrups and balance myself.. is it hard? can a road bike work just as well?

    Hi Ladies,

In regards to the cycling, I saw an episode on 'Whats good for you' on Foxtel and it had a story on interval cycling and weight loss - they say that without changing your diet you can lose weight, although if you eat well it helps even more.

The training consists of the following:
    3 days a week
    Intervals:
    '8 seconds - sprint' then '12 seconds - recovery/regular pace'
    Total of 20 minutes.

I have worked alot with interval training in the past and it works really well, although I have not tried this actual variant, it does sound good, 8 seconds isn't to long to sprint, and it will make it easier and more interesting to get through the 20 minutes. (Program is made for a stand still bike)

Just another suggestion for your consideration!

Thanks for the tip Mannie. I always used to love it when free to air had aerobics ozstyle on as the variety was always good (if I get a DVD I'm always bored the 2nd time I do it!). I wish I had pay TV but it's sooo not in our budget at the moment.
Good luck with your weightloss Mannie - I too have a way to go to get healthier but we are starting IVF regardless (Dr doesn't think my weight will be too much of a problem).

In Brissy you don't even have to think about it, as there is a hill about that often! Riding uphill is equivalent to a sprint.
Mannie, I've only ever ridden a road bike. Never in Cairns though, and I don't know what it's like! I certainly lost 5 or 6 kg when I first started, and it all stayed off as long as I was riding at least twice a week. Saves money on transport too! Put it all back on when we moved up to Brissy I think it was the stress of moving. But the Brissy hills are helping me get it off, and the heat makes me want to swim! There's a pool on the way home from work, and I think I will start stopping in there just about every day. I'm feeling good about it all!
(eating chocolate right now, but only a tiny little bit )

    Go girls!

Great tip, i dont have pay TV but this last week i have been setting my alarm for 6.30 and i get up and do a half hour pilates DVD or hop on the wii fit for 30 mins before anyone is awake.
I also go out for a walk most days with MJ, it is helping...
Oh and the benefit of the wii fit is that it tracks your weight loss as it has built in scales... since giving birth i have lost over 16kg, i am about a kg off pre birth weight but want to loss a bit more.

I found it hard when MJ was younger as i was worried that my milk would dry up if i did too much.

    Goodluck with TTC everyone

I too don't have pay tv but i also live in Cairns Mannie and have just started doing the red arrow again. My sister in law and I do it 3 times a week and we do the esplanade twice a week. My SIL's baby and mine are a day apart so we take turns in waiting at the bottom of the red arrow while the other one goes up. We would use the baby bjorn carriers but i have a bad back and am unable to carry my baby in one of those. All i can say is when you start doing the red arrow you are sure to see results as before i had my baby i used to do it every arvo on my way home from work and i lost around 15kg by doing it. It's a tough walk but a good one.
